STOP Icon in Transport "Greys" out and all actions halt in DP

Post by bjramone27 »

Hi,

Currently running DP 11 and controlling PLAY/STOP by A MIDI Program Change from a MIDI app. The Stop to Program 40 and the Play 41. When I hit stop, the "Stop" Icon in the transport goes grey and then all actions, commands, everything in DP ceases until I hit "Stop" again. Does anyone know what causes this and can I shut it off?

Thank you

I'm speculating here, but it sounds like maybe your MIDI program change command is causing a "toggling effect": It's acting like a button that you press once to turn in on and press again to turn it off. So when you send the 40 program to stop DP, it's like holding your finger down on the stop button. Then when you send the 40 program again, it's like lifting your finger off of the stop button. I suggest trying a different type of control signal instead of a program change signal: maybe a MIDI note or a continuous controller?

Is by any chance the control changing the DP Clock to sync to external?

Thank you all so much.

I checked the external sync and the "wait" when I press on the the "Stop" button. Both are disengaged.

@Tidwells The program change does seem to act like a "toggle" effect on the stop button. I'm just not sure why it holds the "Stop" button down if I hit the button once and then releases on the second hit.

I'll try using a different command like a control change or MIDI note. Fingers crossed

You can make Play/Stop a toggle (like it is with the space bar) so one command to toggle between play & stop states.

It does seem possible that it is behaving weirdly because using MIDI PC's to execute commands might not be a well-tested feature.

You can test by sending a second PC40 to see if it ungreys the stop button.

Try testing other MIDI messages to see if you get better behavior. You could start a support ticket and see if MOTU can tweak the behavior of the commands to allow PC's to work as a momentary (as opposed to a latch) control.
