8A recording sync problem, unable to update firmware

Post by mariuste86 »

Hello

I had my 8A since 2017 and every time I have attempted to do a firmware update, it fails. I thought it must be my old intel Mac, but last year I updated to a MacBook Pro M1 pro, the problem remains.

I pretty much tried everything as per Motu instructions, with and without an ethernet cable to do the update.

Here is the thing: I have an annoying problem that often occurs; when recording audio in ProTools, the recorded audio is not in sync on the timeline. The audio file actually lands several beats behind, so I have to manually time align it afterwards. Has also happened a couple of times during recording sessions with clients in, which is especially annoying, because it is time consuming and just looks stupid. I have been using the AVB mixer for realtime monitoring during recording, which otherwise works great.

I am hoping that a firmware update will be able to solve the issue, as it is clear to me the 8A is the problem. I have used other brand interfaces too with my Macs, and the issue only occurs with the Motu.
