DP11 Won't Sync

Post by Winslow Schiller »

This is weird: in DP 10, my MIDI devices (external drum machines, sequencers, etc) reset to 1 after stopping and restarting the transport (which is normal). If I open the same project in DP 11, they do not reset and continue playing at the point where they were stopped. All settings appear to be the same between both versions. In fact, I can open the same project in 10 and 11 at the same time, side by side. The 10 project will send the correct sync data, and the 11 will not. All settings are the same because they are the SAME project. WTH is going on?

This is still driving me nuts. I spent an hour with Travis at MOTU on this recently. He remotely commanded my machine and confirmed this weird bug. Weird MAJOR bug, that is, with zero help from MOTU. It turns out that DP11 (any version) isn't sending MIDI "rewind" messages to half my gear. Tempo works, but everything but my Korg SQ64 and Arturia Beatstep Pro starts exactly where the DP "stop" command was engaged. I can open a new empty project, add a stereo audio input (a MIDI sync'd drum machine), engage Transmit Sync for the MIDI output, and hit play: it'll start for the first time on the 1, but after that it starts wherever it was stopped. 100% of the time. DP10 works as it should. The setting for both versions are exactly the same. Frustrating (as you might imagine...). Thanks for any ideas.

I always assumed it was using MIDI song position pointer. I use DP11 and it works flawlessly with my Elektron MachineDrum (the mk1 version from ~20 years ago), Korg SQ64 (before I got sick and tired of using this POS), and various other sequencers. Wherever I move the transport (reset, to a particular bar, whatever) the MD acts accordingly - like it always has from day 1. I would use that MIDI Monitor app to verify the appropriate song position pointer is being sent by DP (it has to be or I would have seen this issue) and then figure out what is filtering the message. As a caveat, I am using x2 MOTU MicroLites. And be aware, there was an issue w/ DP11 and the MicroLites, so they need a driver update.

If this stopped working @DP11 I would have gone defcon 5 since this is a feature I have used from the wayback timemachine days of Performer.
