I'm lazy: Is there a "Delete Muted MIDI Notes" function?
I will look later I guess, but is there away to just select an entire MIDI track and have DP delete all muted MIDI notes?

Hi Steve
Have you tried using search?
I have a Search preset set to Notes - Display Notes and bound to a streamdeck key via MIDI remote message. Select all on a track, hit the search preset and then delete.

The only reference to Mute I can see in the Search command is Event Attribute > Automation Value Is Muted. I don't see a way to get that to refer to a muted MIDI note.
I suppose a workaround is to route that track to another MIDI track and record it. Presumably the muted notes will not be recorded.
(EDIT) It works

That's clever, and pretty lazy (in a good way).

Re: I'm lazy: Is there a "Delete Muted MIDI Notes" function?
There’s effectively a key command for this: Select the region (with muted and unmuted notes) and apply Region > Capture Realtime MIDI Events (Cmnd K for me). After that only the unmuted notes will remain.

We too, use the great search command like greg mentioned, to isolate and select all the Display Notes ones. Then just whack 'em. Like a mole.

Can you elaborate? I was not able to see how this works.
And, on capturing MIDI (above) wouldn’t that also render other MIDI data that you might not want rendered?

This process isn't working on my system. Anything else I should know?

Hmm. I’m not sure I can add anything. Does Capture Realtime MIDI Events capture the MIDI plug-in state for you? That’s what this command was originally designed for.stubbsonic wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:38 amThis process isn't working on my system. Anything else I should know?
Other than that, the track needs to be Play-enabled or all the notes will be erased. Then simply select a group of muted and unmuted notes with the I-beam or whatever and apply Capture Realtime MIDI Events. You could also double-click on any one note to select all the notes in a track and apply.
I do this operation a lot. The search method mentioned sounds like a real pia

Re: I'm lazy: Is there a "Delete Muted MIDI Notes" function?
Sure Bays. The term "display" in DP, means that whatever it is being selected or searched, is only for viewing, as opposed to sounding. (muted) So running search for only the 'display notes', will find only the muted ones.
After using ruler or whatever to define a region, We have the search post the answers to the last option in the the bottom left of search window. (Think its called show in new results window or something like that.) Then we select all via command A, in that new window and hit the button in the bottom right of results window to have those muted found items selected in their respective tracks. Then hotkey over to whatever edit window they are in and hit 'delete'. Since we have search preset built for that, takes all of maybe 10 seconds.
I aint at studio yet. Will try to remember to get you some nice screenshots.
And yeah i know the term display is sorta dumb and should more intuitively be called 'muted'.

Re: I'm lazy: Is there a "Delete Muted MIDI Notes" function?
This might or might not be a work around for you. It could take less time or more time depending on the amount of editing you have to do.
Let's call your MIDI track with muted notes "Piano".
1) Set up an IAC driver in Audio MIDI Setup.
2) Set the output of Piano to IAC Driver-1.
3) Create a new MIDI track "Piano Edited" and set its input to IAC Driver-1.
4) Record the playback on "Piano Edited."
It's the MIDI equivalent of Freeze Track (in a ridiculous , convoluted way, but it works. I have tried it.)
This might be just what you need...or not.
If it works for you it makes me happy. If it doesn't, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Woops, I see that Bays has already suggested this. My appologies.
Bays, did you find a way to route it without IAC?

I used IAC, but there appear to be alternatives, some that are generated internally in DP. But the process is the same.

From what I read, looks like it's easier almost to just go into the MIDI Editor and manually select and delete them!

Here's the Super EZ Way: Leave 'em muted and don't worry about it.
