Reassign Continuous Data...a long-standing question

Post by stringtheory »

In the Audio version of the Reassign Continuous Data command window, there is a dropdown box in each of the "from" and "to" sections that list values from "1st" to "20th". For years...decades...I have wondered what this means. There is scant info in the manual about this command, which I have nonetheless used many times, and none at all about this mysterious dropdown box. Has anyone got a clue?

Hey, Stringtheory! It IS puzzling. I had thought that to change a continuous controller, I needed to select the number corresponding to the effect slot the parameter was in. In practice, this turns out not to be true. The mystery deepens...

This was raised on a more recent thread.

I'll repeat my theory here: The maximum allowable number of insert slots in the mixer window is 20. Perhaps that list allows you to direct the reassigned data to a specific insert slot. What's odd is that you can't choose which track-- so if you have the same effect in different tracks, you might not be able to direct to a specific track.

What's also odd is that it doesn't put the automation anywhere-- i.e., if you've selected data in a MIDI track, it won't (or can't?) put that data in the MIDI track (can it?), but you can't tell it where to put the automation data, either-- as it won't just put it in the destination track (that I can tell).
