828x - Windows 10 - No sound EXCEPT...

Hey all. thanks for habing me here. first time posting.

well I'm on Windows10 and have a MOTU 828x.

Had problems for nearly a year with the interface sparatically working , found out finnally that Motu doens't play nice with AMD. 30 dollar PCIe usb hub with a differnt chipset and it's rock sold...WELLLLLL.....Rock solid with Cubase which has been briiant BUT

HUGE PROBLEM that no one seems to be able to fix and now I've found this forum so I'm hoping sometone here will be able to help.

So, As iI said, The 828x is working perfectly and doesn not skip a beat with Cubase BUT I have no Windows sounds, meaning, no windows actual sounds, no vlc, no net like youtube or anything, can't even rund audacity. Even my video editing software has no sound.

So basically there's no sound from ANYTHING apart from cubase and I just can't work like this.


PLEASE, anyone with ANY sugestions please lemme know.

I'vve also gotta say that all other sounds were working at some point much ealier on so I'm not too sure If I did something wrong in a setting somewhere to screw it up.

Again I REALLY REALLY need help ASAP on this one. Work is suffering because of this problem.

Windows audio drivers often conflict with each other. You’ve not given any info on what else it/isn’t running.

Start with the manual. MOTU discusses which drivers work. Searchable PDF files are your friend. I’d start with driver. If that doesn’t do it, go to Troubleshooting.

In the Sound Control Panel, does any of the 828x I/O show up in the Playback and Recording tabs? What physical cable connections do you have to your monitors from the 828x (i.e. analog 1/2 out, mains out)? Does the MOTU Audio Console app load and see the 828x (is there a General and an 828x tab)? What sample rate are you using for your Cubase ASIO sessions?

Hey. Everything is turning up as it should as far as I know. Sound playback and recording devices, motu audio console etc.

Again working perfectly in cubase.

As I'm doing some renovations to the studio I'm just using headphones at the moment bur usually connect from mains out to the monitors.

Sample rate is 48 000 in cubase and everywhere else

Think I'm going nuts here

Just a couple of things to try. My 828mk3 used to go silent when ASIO sample rates were mismatched with the Windows Audio drivers. In the Windows Sound panel properties Advanced tab for both Playback and Recording selected devices, make sure the sample rate is set to 48k and the Exclusive modes are unchecked.

Also, in the Device Manager select Show Hidden Devices in the View menu. In Audio Inputs and Outputs are there duplicates of the 828x I/O greyed out? If yes, right click the greyed out ones and select Uninstall Device, but don't check the remove drivers option if offered. Expand Sound Video and Game Controllers also - uninstall any greyed out MOTU device without removing the drivers.
