imperial College has released some binaural tools as reported in SOS. The back to front movement is more convincing to me than most efforts. The downloads include a free VST plugin.
I'm wondering if shows on BBC Radio 4 like DID have been using these -- there is a strange similarity to that sound.
SOS includes links to downloads and a couple of videos, including one simulating hearing loss.
