Command MIDI assignment help

Post by seedylee »

Hey all,

So I'm just starting my DP journey and have stumbled across a road block.

I'm trying to configure my Korg Kronos to control the transport functions etc in DP, but am having problems getting it to do so reliably.

The issue seems to be that the Kronos sends continuous controllers for the front panel assignable buttons, with a value of 0 when off and 127 when on. In DP, learning these assignments causes both the CC Number and CC value to be recorded. This means that I have to press the controller button twice, for example, to stop the transport, or start playing.

Is there a way to get DP to respond to a particular CC, regardless of its value, when assigning a MIDI controller to a command?

Thanks!

If I understand your question, it sounds like you might want to change the behavior of the buttons on the Kronos to be momentary rather than latch/toggle. See if there is a setting for that.

If not, you could use MIDI notes for some of those things.

I don't know if you can set DP's COMMANDS up to respond to a CC of ANY value.

That would work, but unfortunately the Kronos doesn't allow such customisation when working as an external control surface (it does when using it to control internal parameters).

I tried setting up a custom console to always output the same CC value, which kind of worked, but there doesn't seem to be a way to map the outputs of a custom console to a command - the Command window seems to always receive the "raw" MIDI data from the controller.

What are other people using for remote control of DP when working from a keyboard? It's a bit of a pain moving from the keyboard to the computer to arm/disarm tracks etc, and I don't want to put my master keyboard in front of the computer for a variety of reasons. Has anyone tried the Behringer X-Touch with DP 9.5? What happened to the "DP Control" app?

Thanks so much!

Well, the obvious option is to use the (note) keys themselves to control DP pick low and or high notes you might not need as much. You can also use an octave transpose to push the remotes out of the immediate range, but then you have to bump an octave to get to them.

I had a similar problem using an Arturia keyboard to control DP transport. Out of the box it sends a play command when you press the play button, and a stop command when you release it. Not that useful. I found that it was possible to edit the commands on the keyboard to get it to send the proper commands. I also used the very helpful MIDI Monitor app (from Snoize?) to determine exactly what the keyboard was sending.
