It does pretty much what the box says -- a dozen or so enhancements, but with the usual x.0.0 bugs. I find it a bit snappier, but that opinion is far from universal. The enhancements are well described in the videos at motu.com. If they don't interest you, save your money for later.

In my personal experience, having mega-projects open up in under 10 seconds vs. taking up to 10 minutes, is worth $200 on its own.

I,m in no hurry to upgrade. Staying on 8 for now. With the exchange rate here in Canada a bit expensive at this time for what you get. There are some nice things in 9, but for me I can wait.

It really is up to you. I've seen plenty of people that didn't find much for themselves.
For me though... this update is amazing. Just the MW FET-76 is worth it alone IMO. Plenty of other features I'm really enjoying as well.

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
I make a living with DP, and I have since version 1.7 (and Performer before that). So I pay MOTU for every point-oh upgrade. It's not expensive compared to any other professional software (Adobe, ProTools, etc.), and it's my contribution to the continuing development of the very best DAW for me and my work.
But that aside, I like the update. Lots of small productivity enhancements, MX4 is better than I expected, the FET-76 is nice, and some under the hood stuff make it well worth the price. 9.1 will be sweet and coming soon.

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
Given the multiple bugs, I'd wait until at least a .01 release from MOTU. Perhaps DP 10 will be out before that...?

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
I'm not comparing it to anything. I'm just listening to it. Comparing it would be feeding some kind of fantasy that there is a best example, or a plug that most precisely emulates the hardware. That crap gets talked on the Internet constantly, and not one word of it has ever made a difference in my work. I compare it to speed shop or guitar store chatter: 98% BS, with the remaining 2% not relevant.

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
I just tried out the FET 76. I don't have enough experience with the hardware 1176 to know how close it is, but I like it. I have the UAD-1 version of the 1176 and the FET 76 replaces it just fine for my purposes. What I really noticed is that it works well with other MOTU plugins that I'd use with guitars. I think it makes the ACE30 sound much better and makes it more usable. Along with the MW Gate, and LIve G, I can get just the sound I want with my Ric and Tele.
It does seem to run a bit hot compared with the UAD version: with relatively low input boost it gets pretty responsive, but there's plenty of adjustment.

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
DP9 will be the first version I won't be upgrading to (got on board at 2.72).
Mainly because I'm mostly doing video these days and don't have a studio anymore.
But also because the kind of features that were included in DP9 was the stuff I expected in a free 8.1 update because version 8 didn't bring much new, it was mainly a windows port and under the hood stuff.
The one feature I'm excited about is retina display support...
This might change if I get my band going again, although I've switched to Logic for songwriting, I use DP to run backing tracks live. And for recording other people I still prefer it over Logic.
But looking at the low res UI of DP8 is a. Real drag, think it's the last app I have that doesn't have support for retina displays. So that feature alone is almost worth $195 to me

mh, can you be a bit more specific about what it is in "9" that causes such a huge speed-bump in opening times?mhschmieder wrote:In my personal experience, having mega-projects open up in under 10 seconds vs. taking up to 10 minutes, is worth $200 on its own.

You can try the demo version 9. today I was struck by how 9 version sound. after the final bounce ... such clarity and readability of the instruments. also thought nothing special about the new version. I work in at 8_07. So already starting to save for an update))

Re: DP9 worth getting or wait for DP10?
Hello,
I skipped DP6, what a disaster for me. DP7 was a solid performer (pun intended). DP8 has been very solid in the student labs. Just got DP9 and beginning tests. I have until Sept 15 to decide if I'll upgrade the Lab machines.
