well,so far a few odd things to get used to and figure out.

Disclaimer* I'm by no means a power user,I'm the reason drummer jokes prevail ;-)
So much of my confusion might be pilot error or the after affects of years of "bad behavioral habits".

Launching in 64bit mode as expected UAD plugs don't show up.
But String Studio AAS also doesn't but Chromaphone does.....will call AAS

Cypher & Fuser - FXpansion also don't show up

All AU's passed inspection.
Choosing VI's & plugs looks a bit different now visually but ,looks potentially very nice.

Got on the phone with Tech support, the person I talked to had me try launching in 32 bit mode,DP hangs trying to examine Sampletank 2 which I never use and will try to disable but so far it's easier for me to launch in 64bit and I've not been able to startup in 32bit.
I sent the reports to MOTU,they're aware of it.
I will contact the other vendors to see if they have any ideas will keep you all posted.

To be continued.........

Thanks KGDRUM, hope it´s just a quickly fixed thing.

I wonder if you have repaired permissions after installing DP8 and rebooted? If not, please do so.

Can you still open and run DP 7.24 and are all the plugins there as before?

ps. From what I´ve understood, after installing, the very first time, one should open the DAW in 32 bit mode before going to 64...
Donnow why, I might be wrong, but I had this kinda thing going on with Logic earlier and it helped.

The MAS version of Ethno Instrument caused a fatal crash when booting in 32-bit mode; I removed it from the MAS folder and subsequently DP 8 booted in 32-bit mode no problem (in my case, Sampletank 2.5 loaded fine).

Amplidood's Themes aren't available in either 32 or 64-bit mode; they are there in the preferences but they are inactive. Now when I open DP 7.24, Amplidood's themes (as well as the Default theme) are the only themes available in the preferences; MOTU's themes (Plasma, Dark, etc.) are inactive. Looks like a theme's .bundle needs an update to work in 8 that ends up breaking it in 7.24.

 Sweet :)

I´d also suggest you delete the audiounitcache so DP is forced to rescan and write a new one.

Plz let us know.

Sweet is not the correct word in English
;-)
I don't think trashing the AU Info cache is called for as they all show up in 32 bit mode,I need to find out if FXPansions Dcam synth Squad is 64bit re: Cypher and Fuser

And String Studio from AAS,wired because Chromaphone shows up in 64 bit but not String Studio, though it's older.
Waiting to hear from AAS &FXPansion in the meantime.
As always, thanks for the help. ;-)

Andy (Amplidood) is aware of this and is going to fix the AMP GUI Themes so they´ll work in DP8.
I really love his Themes!!
Its´cuz of him MOTU implemented Themes. Let´s worship that.

Hope the plugin crash problem will get fixed. Did you try my suggestions I wrote to kgdrum?

AAS is all 32 bit EXCEPT for the newer Chromaphone, so will wait for AAS to update, which they're working on.

Will see if I need to update my FXpansion plugs maybe the versions I have predate 64bit.

If they show up & work 32bit is there any reason to trash AU info cache?

I can try but I doubt that's the issue.

It won´t hurt trashing AU info cache to see if it works. (You can always save the "old" one on another location).
Don´t forget to start DP in 32 bit mode after that before you open in 64 mode..

FYI : AU info cache is in another place now in DP8

Folder : user ->home ->library->preferences
com.motu.MotuAudioSystem

2 separate folders default for 32bit & a 64bit AU cache folder.
After checking for update with FXPansion if it still doesn't work I will try trashing.

Installed Waves 9 (authorized on the computer and not a USB drive) and that looks to be working on DP 8. Opened up a DP 7.24 session (DP scanned the Waves plugs again and I skipped the AU validation of all except a handful I use regularly) and the Waves plugs worked fine there also.

So far it looks like you can have DP 8 and DP 7 on your hard drive at the same time and work on either one, depending on your needs. I plan on composing and tracking in 8 in 64-bit mode (sometimes DP runs out of memory when I audition a bunch of Omnisphere patches, for example) and then opening the session in 7 when I need to mix (I use the UAD stuff a lot when mixing, and at that point I've rendered everything to audio anyway). Of course, if memory is not an issue for a certain project I might just use DP 8 in 32-bit mode for the entire time.

Only issue I've noticed at this point is that someone who doesn't have the Amplidood themes will be stuck with the Default theme in 7.24; MOTUs themes are broken in 7.24 after you install DP 8.
