SOLVED: DP 7.24 Won't Open, Hangs on Altiverb

Post by westlake79 »

Running DP 7.24 on OSX 10.6.8. Using Altiverb 6.3.5. I've narrowed it down to that one plug-in, when I remove the Altiverb6.bundle from MAS, it boots up fine. When I put the plug in back, it hangs. Was working fine. I did recently update to Komplete 8. Not sure if that did anything.

Repaired Disk Partitions and reset PRAM. Also uninstalled and reinstalled plug-in. I am officially stuck.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try updating your iLok drivers.

Uninstalled Pace and then reinstalled to the latest version. I also updated to the latest Altiverb 6. Same problem. If I let it run after about 20 min it gets to the AU inspection, but the "initializing" bar sticks for hours. I suspect Pace as well, but after reinstall, could it be a the USB stick went bad?

Probably not the iLok, but you could go to iLok.com and see if it is recognized.

You don't have both the AU and MAS versions installed by chance?

Otherwise, try the normal trash the preferences, rescan the plugins, although if you
don't have the AU installed, I'm not sure if that would help.

After that, if its not working, you might need to contact Arjen at Audioease.

Last resort--- go with a version of iLok and Altiverb that were created during the era when our respective computers reigned supreme. If you're a 10.6 person, move cautiously into a 10.7-related update unless you're running 10.7.

Consider reinstalling an earlier version of Altiverb. The point is to be up and running regardless of version.

Thanks Frodo,

Interesting thing found. Everything to do with Altiverb, whether running the installer, running the de-installer, DP loading the plugin at start-up comes with a significant wait time of about 10-15 minutes. Meaning, when I run an installer, it takes about 10 minutes in between when I click the installer app and when the installer actually pops up. Same for loading Altiverb in Logic. Same for the De-Installer. I am wondering if there is something up. Thanks for the help y'all.

One last thing I'll try is running the PACE installers from Jan 2011. These worked fine for me. Will report back.

No go. I've even gone into time machine and replaced the Component and MAS files from when things were working. Logic and PT not opening with Altiverb either. Or rather they open, but only after about 10-15 minutes.

Have you tried removing the MAS (.bundle) version and running the AU version? I had a strange situation with Izotope RX MAS version that had the same symptoms as you. It was actually another plugin, hEar, that was causing the problem and stalling DP on startup, but when I removed the MAS version of RX everything was fine. I just used the AU version until the plugins were updated. Just some kind of weird clash....

cheers

Probably not much help, but AV is more than half of DP load time on my machine, and was on my last machine as well. I think it has been twice that DP hung up while loading AV, but in both cases I command-control-escaped and then relaunched, and everything was fine. I have AV 6, haven't upgraded to 7 yet.

Word of caution: if you go to reinstall an older version of AV, it has to use Rosetta, which I don't think you can do on Lion.

SOLVED:

It was the Drobo. Drobo is a back-up solution, external hard drive bays connected via firewire 800. I can't believe I didn't try disconnecting all drives and peripherals. Rookie move. :banghead: Some people swear by Drobo but they are incredibly slow. I wonder if Altiverb was searching for the license key perhaps? Crazy.

All I know is, turned off time machine, nothing changed. Unplugged the Drobo, I have my computer back.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
