Hi Everyone! This question is gonna take everybody WAY BACK...

I know this is a long shot, but a couple of months ago I bought an old MIDI Timepiece One because I want to try to set up a MIDI sequencing setup around an old Macintosh SE running Performer 4.2. The only thing is that I had forgotten that the MTP needs software to run. Back in 1996 I remember buying a used MTP II, and I had forgotten that it came with disks to install the MTP II Console (it turns out I still have a compressed version of that installer). While I had read that the MTP II Console also works with the MTP I, it only runs in Mac System 7 or above because it needs FreeMIDI to run). Just for giggles I did write MOTU to see if they had a copy of the MTP I desk accessory installer, but their archives dont go back that far...

I'm trying to avoid installing System 7 on this Mac because I hear that it runs crazy slow on the Mac SE... So I'm asking if anyone of you folks may have a copy of the MTP I desk accessory installer somewhere in your archives, either on a floppy disk or disk image (or a stuffit file).

That's surprising because System 7 did not slow down my Mac Plus.

Like many of us here, I used to have all those disks but they went out in a purge 20 years ago or so..

IIRC, system 7 did run a lot slower than 6 if you had a mac without sufficient RAM.

As for the discs, I’ve seen links to old mac stuff that was moved to the public domain. I think one of several MacAttorney lists might be a place to look for it.

Ok so to update on my situation:

I tried to install System 7.1 and FreeMIDI. Apparently FreeMIDI needs at least 8 MB to run. I was able to install it with only 4 MB, but anything I tried to run after that would crash. No dice...

Finally I ended up finding another MTP I online in its original box, with manual and install disks. I ordered it, not knowing if the disks were still any good, or if the floppy drive in my SE was still working... I took apart the drive and cleaned it, then tested it with a blank disk I had the day before I was supposed to receive the MTP. Even the day I got the MTP, I just put the disk in, and copied the contents to the internal drive before ejecting the disk... Everything worked well...

So yes, you do need the MTP I Desk Accessory in order for the Mac to see the MTP. Performer 4.2 works great with the Mac SE in System 6.0.8 (although I am going to get a 68030 accelerator board because the refresh rates are painfully slow). Its also nostalgic running this 30 year old version of Performer and re-learning how to MIDI sequence my old hardware without some "old" Performer features (like not having detailed tracks in the tracks window (just grey/black bricks), split notes automatically pasting on its own separate tracks, etc.)...

Like you, I just bought an old MOTU MTP 1 and, of course, I need the console software and the MTP 1 desk accessory for an old Mac computer to program the MIDI inputs and outputs. I see you have those famous floppy disks! Would it be possible for you to make me a copy or a disk image?
I would be very grateful. I can also pay you for them, it's no problem.
