DP + NAS: Digital Performer has encountered an error...
See the attachment for the full error screen.
I got my new Mini M4 Pro today, and used Migration Assistant to copy everything over from my Intel MacPro. I had to reauthorize DP and a bunch of VIs, and it's going OK except for two issues.
This is may be related to my QNAP NAS, which I've connected to the Mini via Thunderbolt 2 (using a USB-C TB cable).
I used a SAS SCSI for my files on the old MacPro. So, using the NAS is a new wrinkle I'm trying to straighten out.
I can Save As to a new file name, but I can't over-write - simply do a Save over an existing file.
I also did some testing with DaVinci Resolve, and it lets me save using an existing file name, so maybe it's not related to the NAS, but rather DP not liking the NAS. My Resolve projects also reside on the NAS, so I don't think this is a permissions issue, at least not with Resolve.
I also connected to the NAS by 10Gbe (because it's a NAS), and I have the same issue with Saving.
I copied my DP project folder onto a USB-C flash drive, opened the project, made a change, hit Save, and it saved. So, this seems to implicate the QNAP, or again, DP not liking the QNAP.
Does anybody have any experience or ideas to share?

Re: DP + NAS: Digital Performer has encountered an error...
I just wanted to tack on something else I've learned:
I can Bounce a file with "Overwrite Existing Files" enabled, and DP will overwrite the existing file.
So, this makes it appear that Save over an existing project file with the same name is a bug in DP.
I have thought of a workaround until MOTU fixes this bug that's at least four years old going back to DP9:
Set my Auto-save frequency to every five minutes. That way, I shouldn't lose more than five minutes of work in case of a crash. I can manually clean out my Autosaves folder after sessions to minimize file bloat.
Since DP auto-increments the file names of auto-saved files, the "overwrite" bug should not manifest.
PS. I've now tried this on three computers. All three are prevented from saving over an existing file to a disk on my ethernet network - DP only. No other apps present this issue.

NAS RAID 6 over TB2 or 10 Gbe: SMB (OS X)mikehalloran wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 7:59 pm You’ve not told us how the drives are formatted. I suspect that is your issue.
SAS RAID 6 over 10 Gbe: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
NVMe RAID 0: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
USB-C Flash stick: ExFAT
USB-C SSD: APFS
Pretty much the gamut.

Re: DP + NAS: Digital Performer has encountered an error...
Not seeing any evidence of a bug in DP. It has no problem writing to my WD NAS boxes. I use Dropbox to collaborate with others and have not had a problem there, either.
I have seen that exact error within the last year but I don’t recall how I fixed it other than it was caused by a plug-in and removing it did the trick.
Between family, working with Apple, Christmas gigs and a homeless brother in Long Beach, I have had very little time to spend here.

Re: DP + NAS: Digital Performer has encountered an error...
I am sorry to hear of that Mike. I am not a stranger to such things, and there are no simple answers.
Best wishes to you and yours for the Holidays, and to everyone here as well!
Re: DP + NAS: Digital Performer has encountered an error...
You are the first and only to have commented on this thread writing you use DP with a NAS or more than one NAS. I didn't think I could be the only doing this.mikehalloran wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 7:50 am Not seeing any evidence of a bug in DP. It has no problem writing to my WD NAS boxes. So, I infer that you have used DP with two different types of a network mounted drive, and do not get an error message when saving over an existing file. Right?
I tested your plug-in theory by removing all plug-ins in a project (making it audio only), and hitting Save. I got the same error screen.
I tried mounting a different drive over ethernet, and got the error.
I relaunched DP in Rosetta, and tried again. Same error.
I was hoping that "NSCocoaErrorDomain error reported by Cocoa" would mean something. I did a web search and all that info is way over my head.
Perhaps the issue is caused by a Network Setting. When I open Ethernet in System Settings, I'm baffled by the options. I use DHCP and Configure Automatically, and check Hardware to ensure I'm running at 10Gbase-T.
Anyway, and Epilog... I'm using a workaround: I bought an 8TB NVRAMe RAID 0 attached by TB/USB-4 (DAS). I copied all my DP Projects to it. I have no issues saving to DAS. I can use the NAS as a backup, and use ChronoSync to keep the folders synched. Bonus: I can shut down the NAS while using the DAS, and it's a LOT more quiet in my workspace.
So, the issue in not solved, but it is moot, as far as I'm concerned.
