828ES Mic/Inst Trim Control
Hello I am looking for advice on the 828es Mic/Inst trim control. I am using Mic/Inst 1 input for my GTR sending to Logic X with Amplitube 4 as the plugin. The interface Mic/Inst 1 tim appears to start at 0db but in Logic it’s far to hot, before adding the plugin? I want to turn the interface input level down but the knob is set at 0bd you can’t go -0 How do I turn the level going into the interface down? Thanks DH

Engage the20dB Pad! Both Mic/Inst Inputs have them; toggle via the "PAD" hardware switch on front panel or access from the web app.
Unless your guitar is overloading the input stage of the 828, you might be better served by digitally trimming the input to the guitar modeler plugin within Logic. You can use the front panel metering on the 828 or input metering in Logic to look for overs.

Thank You for your advice? Yes I have tried the -20 dB Pad which I only thought effected Mics. I am surprised MOTU have set the Inst input so you can’t contol it other than -20 Pad? Hum

I wonder if I can use the audio control software mixer, to control the level going to Logic? I am just getting use to the software routing etc. So a little unsure.

You can definitely route post-AVB Mixer audio to your DAW and thus reduce levels there. Set it up in the routing matrix.sg335man wrote:I wonder if I can use the audio control software mixer, to control the level going to Logic? I am just getting use to the software routing etc. So a little unsure.

This appears pertinent:
Personally, I'd still prefer to do the reduction in my DAW; you can use any plugin that provides gain control, like a compressor.Mix PostFX Channels
The last topic to mention regarding the Mixer Return input banks on your Routing tab, are the "Mix PostFX" inputs. These inputs carry signal from your Mixer's input channels after it has gone through the signal processors on the mixer channel strip, (if none are enabled, this channel will have your original, dry input signal, which could still be split off and routed elsewhere). You can split this signal, post-FX, and send it to any destination.
EDIT: Based on OP's last post (see below) looks like the 20dB Pad does apply to the instrument inputs.

Re: 828ES Mic/Inst Trim Control
Thank You so much for your help and time. The Pad on the 828es does reduce the level looking at the level coming into Logic. Selecting the right input levels in Amplitube 4 plugin is important or it changes the sound quite a lot. I guess got use to + and - control of levels in the past. I just switched to the 828es from Apogee Element so a learning curve forsure especially the routing etc. again thank you.

for what is worth I have also seen that the mic inputs drive my guitars too hot and I always need to engage the pad
