Option-clicking on text is DP's universal convention for changing it.

It's also helpful to know that if you want to rename more than one item in the list, you can use "enter" (on the numeric keypad, if you have one) to advance the renaming field to the next item in the list.
If you hit "return" after you type the new name, it will exit the re-name action.
If you don't already do this, it can be helpful to mess around with combinations like SHIFT-RIGHT/LEFT, or SHIFT-OPTION-RIGHT/LEFT, or COMMAND-RIGHT/LEFT to move the cursor and selection around while you are editing.

Re: How to rename in Soundbites list?
Thank you both.
My concern is , yes we can use the option key to rename the soundbite, but actually the sound file itself inside the audios folder is not been renamed... If you rename a soudbite, reveal it in finder, it's still in the old name.
Any potential things could be messed up/ got confused in such case?

Re: How to rename in Soundbites list?
It's a good point. The relationship and difference between soundbites and audio files has caused some confusion for some users. I think the manual does a good job of explaining it-- for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of it. In short, soundbites are just regions with pointers for start and end times of a larger audio file. They are part of the data contained inside the audio file. You can rename the soundbite which is a "sub-file" of the main audio file.
To rename the audio file itself, you can either expand the soundbites window, or scroll to the right to expose the FILE column. Option-click on that and you are file-renaming like a pro. Same process applies.
NOTE: If you don't like the order of columns, you can drag the FILE heading over to the left and put it where you like in the order. I don't know if that change carries over to other projects.

Alternately, one might plan ahead and rename the audio files before importing them to DP, thus avoid the problem all together. Then again, what would there be to post about? Absolutely NOTHIN' (say it again...)

Or, if the audio files are created in DP, it can take some strategic track naming (from which the file-names are based) to keep things organized. I will sometimes change the name of an input track several times as I'm recording, as that kind of takes care of it at the source.

Re: How to rename in Soundbites list?
Also, the PARENT audio files (not the soundbites) can be mass-renamed in the Finder with the new feature. This should be done with DP closed. When one opens the session, DP should have no problem finding the audio files with the new names automatically, IIRC.
So yes. Soundbites must be renamed one by one by option-clicking. Parent sound files can be renamed like that too, or via the Finder when there are many files.
Any change to a SB based on this parent audio file, would then reflect the new name.
I wish there was an easy way to rename many SBs at the same time, so there's a suggestion for MOTU...
The best thing, as mentioned up-thread, is to name the tracks properly prior to recording, so the audio file and SBs naming is automatic according to the track name. But this is not always possible...
