Playback Bar/ Audio Performance

Post by musicdragon »

Hello,

I just got of the phone with Motu & they are even stummped???

No matter if i playback 1 track or 30 tracks of audio my playback bar in the audio performance window is pegged 1/2 way?????

What we have done:

System priority tab is set to high in the preferences, I have repaired disk permissions, different buffer settings/ studio setiings cappachino/ caforama ect...Logging on as a different user/account still no luck!!!

Any answers to this???

Thanx
Donnie

When you say they where stumped, what exactly did they say?
My playback meter is pegged at half way as well, but what of it?
Everything else performs perfectly fine.

Thanx for the reply :)

(When you say they where stumped, what exactly did they say?)

They had me set the System priority tab to high in the preferences, Repair disk permissions, different buffer settings/ studio setiings cappachino/ caforama ect...Logging on as a different user/account...

They said certain systems have been experiencing this & that if I notice any other problems to give them a call. (If you change your studio settings to "0" on your allowed tracks watch your audio performance bar keep raising :)

(My playback meter is pegged at half way as well, but what of it? Everything else performs perfectly fine.)

Exactly, my meter is pegged 1/2 way too & also running fine. I just got everything going with the new G5 424 card and didn't want to have my band come over, get all set up & start having issues....

I just thought maybe someone on here might have a fix or some insight on it?

That's just the playback buffer, you should only be concerned if it's always full. If it's only half full, you're safe.

You should want the playback buffer to fill at least hallfway- which means RAM is being filled to help keep everything in sync and sounding good. As long as no spikes and it sounds good...

Diff than the CPU bar (top bar) filling halfway with no VIs, plugs or anything. That's what happens with DP4 on a pre-G3 machine with 128 mb RAM, no audio tracks and sitting still---indicating a woefully underpowered box for DP4.

Very Cool, thank you:)

Good to know about the (cpu) bar thanx Chris :) motu said the same thing:)

Other than that everything is stable (no peaks unless I limit to much, hehehehe & 30 tracks with plugs on a dual g5 1 gig of ram is barely scartching the cpu bar :)

Can't wait till I can put 2 more gigs of RAM in for some native instruments & waves :)

Before I upgraded to 4.5 the playback bar was usefull. It let me know if I started playback to soon. If I waited a couple of seconds it would slightly fill but if I started to soon it would half fill solid. I was alarmed at first after I upgraded , I didn't know why it was different . Now I just don't look at it .
