Pitch correction-merge soundbites issue

Post by muscletn »

Here's the scenario: When comping a vocal, I most often tune as I go, using the AMAZING DP pitch correction function with the occasional Antares AutoTune 7. When the comping is completed, the next order of business is to merge the many soundbites into one.
In going through the vocal many times, I know every note intimately, and now that it's tuned,
I'm very sensitive to anything that I may have missed.
After the soundbites have been merged, I've noticed beyond doubt that the pitch corrections weren't retained in all of the areas. Most were, but this is a major DRAG!
My suspicions were confirmed by repeatedly merging the soundbites, looking at the pitches, and then un-doing the merge, and comparing the pitches of the individual soundbites.

I should add that I'm tuning to make "natural sounding" not tuning-effected vocals.

This has been going on for some time, at least back to DP 5.13 to my recollection. Here in 7.24 the issue is still not corrected.

Has anyone else experienced this phenom?

Thanks for weighing in on this RG. I'll give your suggestion a try, and will let you know the results.
I've been bouncing/merging tuned soundbites for years, but the problems have rarely been artifacts, or clicks. Once in a while, yes, but the problem is mostly instability of the pitch correction(s).

I tried your suggestion of recording in real time through busses, and got slightly better results, but the problem is still there. I'm trying to attach a screen shot that shows the discrepancies between the original vocal comp track with the real-time recorded track, but I can't seem to figure out how to attach.

Here's the screen shot muscletn sent me. Compare chicklet positions on purple track (original) with green (real time bussed)and notice extra chicklets & other inaccuracies, these are noticeable audio changes... Do we have a bug problem?

Ooops I can't figure out how to attach this file... some help sending a .png file please.
