Re: iTUNES
You can use CDBABY but when you sign up for digital distribution they take all your rights and distribute to subscription services like Napster, Rhapsody and others so beware.

Re: iTUNES
I advise you to visit the CDBaby web site and see what the deal is with regard to your "rights".
You do have to allow them the exclusive rights for digital distribution, but you can cancel the deal with 30 days notice. I don't think any record company would give you that deal.

Re: iTUNES
They say that but i don't think they can do it. Too much red tape.
Once it's in the hands of the DD 'subscriber model' and published, it's gone too far and I doubt they or anyone else could get it back.
I recently had a row with them about this. They really pushed it on the artists within the CDB site. If we had asked to pull our album back from DD they would have cancelled iTunes too. So far Steve Jobbs is holding off the subscription model as long as he can per a recent article I read. Bless him for holding on, that is until he does it.
I emaild a high up quardinater for the Apple music division and told her to PLEASE give us a back door to sign up independantly and opt out of the subscription model. That would at least even the playing field a little. I got no reply.
Anyway, I decided to list our new CD with CDBABY but NOT digital distribution. We just finished it too.
I don't know if you remember this but In the beginning, you could choose the digital distributors you wanted to list with.
CDBABY even listed the deals of each for you to check off. If you have noticed, that was taken off VERY quietly. I suspect I know the reason why but I won't say it publicly. Suffice to say that once you opt in, your DD rights are history and part of the ethernet.
As well to consider, the pay to play watermark that we are told protects us from theft by disabling the player will not work when one copies the audio from a simple headphone jax analogue. So much for the brain surgeon that thought up that one.
Right now all you have to do is sign up to any of the subscription model services and download 30 albums or so then copy it to another format. It would take you about a month, on and off in your spare time with cable modem. Theoretically, you could then cancel the subscription service with only two months paid in, about 30 bucks for about 3K woth of music. Not bad for the poor student and his friends. Just pick any number of audio engine based freeware to repartition 10 songs per album and your in business.
So, if you think you can make money on this model? I have to tell you to please rethink this for your own good and fight the Napster/Rhapsody and others return of the free music mentality or were all doomed. Maybe it's already too late but I'm really hoping it's not.
Why do you think live music has returned? It's the only way to make money, at the door.
If you have a band and can perform live, you have the edge but the music industry as we know it is almost extinct unless income streams are re-established.
Best!

The answer:
Unfortunatly wonder, CD BABY

I don't mean to be a smartass, but aren't you the one that owns a book called "A Guide to Selling Your Music on iTunes?"Originally posted by wonder:

From your questions, I assume the book doesn't tell you how to sell your music on iTunes.

Re: iTUNES
I see. I have a track that's part of a compilation CD on iTunes. I didn't handle any of the adminstration stuff, but from what I heard, it took months to finally appear on iTunes. I understand that indies get very little priority.Originally posted by wonder:

Timeline Dont Know Squat!!!!
Go to cdbaby. I have been using them for 2 years now and make money every quater from down loads. Timeline doesnt know what he is talking about
. they need your right to give them to all the paying download services. as soon as you want to stop just tell them but its nothing more than permission to sell your music just as leaving cd's with a store to sell. they wouldnt want you to say later own that you did not give them permission. Sometimes I laugh every unsigned artist is so worried that the music might get bootlegged. Wow if that happens that means you got something use cdbaby they are great and they ask b4 they do anything with your music and its given my artist Malika so much exposure especial in Japan we have sold over 30 cd's and 75 downloads in a market we dont even advertise in

bboy, im STILL waiting to hear back from iTUNES. I got my DUPE done from OASIS (oasiscd.com). They recommend using CDBABY.... seems like you know some about it.
If one signs with CDBABY, does it mean you CANT use any other distribution company (like itunes)?
