Mackie Onyx
Has anyone used one of these yet? Is there a noticeable difference between the preamps and EQ on the Onyx and the preamps and EQ on other Mackie analog boards?
Re: Mackie Onyx
I'm running Mackie Onyx preamps (from both a 1640 and a 1620) into my MOTU 24i/o. The sound is GREAT -- I've gotten several compliments on it.
It is not a colored sound, just a clean quiet pure sound. If you want a particular tone, then put a different preamp in front.
I've used other Mackie preamps, and the Onyx sound significantly better. As good as the super expensive preamps? Probably not -- but good enough that you can concentrate on the music instead of the preamps? Yah. They're much better than the old 32*8 preamps, and lots of hits were made on those boards. They're better IMHO than the VLZ Pro preamps, or the preamps in the Mackie d8b board.
