Hit Factory NYC, closed, Cello LA and others closed, SSL

The Hit factory NYC is rumored to be closing tomorrow and Cello, UA Beach Boys, Sinatra studios went last week.

We are witnessing the end of the commercial rock/contemporary music studios with the exception of Nashville where they continue to build them. (Blackbird Studios I toured last week). They don't have DP, only PT and Radar.

Now with 24 track 2" tape unavailable, the hammer is down on analog and possibly the music industry at large. What we can do in our home studios appears to be about it as prices for remaining rooms will surely rise.

Hold on tight. It might be a rough ride for digital audio too
as record labels will surely be next.

I hate to say it but I have seen this coming for years as I closed Alpha Studios in '03.

I don't mind digital but I sure miss a nice big room with a big console.

It's also interesting that Jonny Carson dies and it begins.

Add Enterprise Studio as of today. Audio Affects was closed months ago.

Royal tone sold to private songwriter and not commercial.

it's not a rumour Hit Factory is consolidating to studio in Florida,it was on news here in NYC last week........advancements in cheaper technology and the economics of running a studio is changing the landscape....

SSL's site is still up, and the only thing I could find is that the company's stock holders have agreed to put the company up for sale, and that they are hoping to complete the sale by March 31, 2005. I can't find anything about them shutting their doors. I agree that it would be a bad sign for the enire recording industry to see a giant like SSL go down.
