sac 2.2--HELP!
Hi Everyone,
I just got a lovely used SAC 2.2 that turns on and lights up and passes current to the USB port. However, I can't get it to work with DP 4.5. I've followed the instructions in the manual, and updated the Apple MIDI panel thingy (how come it only says "SAC-2k"? DP says 2.2) and when I hit play -- nothing.
I went to the Radikal tech website and downloaded the latest driver, which will open only in OS9. Dumbasses. I'm running on a g5, so there's no OS9 for me.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. When I called MOTU, the tech support guy asked me what the SAC-2.2 was. He then proceeded to run through the manual with me and put me on hold a lot while he spoke with someone who might have known what they were doing.
At the end, he said, "make sure you have the latest driver" which I think I do, since I think it comes with DP.
I hate plug and play, because it's NEVER plug and play.

Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
What is the firmware version of the SAC? Needs to be 3.04 to run in oSX as far as I remember.
Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
It is 3.04, though I do see the word "beta" on the screen. But their tech support told me that doesn't matter.
Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
MOTU should have the driver. Try to get the driver from them, not Radikal.
MacBook Pro Quad 2.4GHz i7 • 10.12 • 16G RAM • DP 9 • MOTU 896HD Hybrid, Apogee Duet, & MOTU Micro Lite MIDI interface • Waves Platinum, Studio Classics Collection, Abbey Road, etc... • Fabfilter Pro-Q2 • Soundtoys FX • IK Amplitube 3, Ampeg, and TRacks 3 • Altiverb 7 • Slate Digital Everything Bundle • Stylus RMX • Komplete 10 • SampleTank 3 • Arturia V Collection • M-Audio Axiom 49
Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
Do you have the same midichannel on the SAC as you have in the CONTROL SURFACE SETUP in DP?
Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies on this thread. I solved my problem (see below) and now have new questions since it's working (see further below).
So the manuals online are pretty vague and the DP 4.5 manual doesn't have the complete answers either, but here's what I figured out:
1. Although the drivers for the 2.2 come with DP, they don't include an up-to-date USB driver.
2. That must be downloaded from the radkialtechnologies website. Unfortunately, it's encoded as an OS9 file, so you need a friend who runs classic or OS9 to uncompress it for you (which I did). Then the installer works fine in OSX.
3. I installed it and the unit worked right away. Then I set it up in DP and ran it under slave mode, MIDI channel 1, and it appeared to work fine. Faders were moving, I was able to control pans, etc.
Now I'm in the figuring it out phase. For instance, it doesn't seem to simply switch banks of 8, but more like 4 at a time. Moreover, once I select a bank, I only see 8 channels at a time on the monitor and DP hides the rest. I'm sure there's a way to get rid of this behavior, but I don't yet know how.
Anyone a real expert on configuring their 2.2? If you're a pro, I'd love to buy an hour or two of your studio time for a telephone tutorial, since neither the tech support people at DP nor the people at Radikal seem to know much about interfacing the two programs.

Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
Hit CONTROL and MASTER FADER SELECT (hold these) and you will get a menu where you can disable the feature where DPs mixer will follow the SAC.
Re: sac 2.2--HELP!
Thanks much -- that did the trick. However, now I notice that it's also "disappearing" tracks in the sequences window and I can't figure out how to get them back.
Also, although I run it in slave mode and channel 1 and save it each time, it forgets and I start out in logic mode when I turn it on the next time. Any ideas for what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

PS -- the offer is still good for anyone who's willing to spend an hour on the phone giving me a lesson with this thing. I'd be happy to pay your normal studio rate.
