Remix, which is a magazine I get for free for some reason but barely read as it tends to be DJ-oriented, has an interesting article in the September 2008 issue on how to properly create a realistic Indian Raga.
I thought this might be of interest to those who occasionally introduce such influences into their work. I haven't tried to implement any of their hints yet, but will soon, as I have a raga-oriented arrangement that I need to re-track and complete, from a couple of years back.
Surprisingly, the point of view is truly as a composer/arranger and not a loop artist. The article is quite detailed in what constitutes a raga with all of its complexities.
