ADAT lightpipe, 2408, ART Digital MPA

Post by timbuque »

I am enjoying the ART Digital MPA mic preamp with digital outs. Spdif connection works very well.

Optical out produces noise that is is a combination of hiss and very distorted audio (my voice). I am connecting this optical out to "adat in" on the old 2408 - exactly as MOTU suggests using the lightpipe. The two devices sync but the bad sound remains. The problem exists in stand a lone mode as well as pci mode. Any ideas?

I have Mac Pro, OS X 10.4.11, 424 card. :?:

I synced the Digital MPA via wordclock - now everything works perfectly, though syncing thru the ADAT out should have worked fine. :?:

If the only connection is from the preamp ADAT output to one of the 2408's ADAT inputs, then the preamp must be the master clock source. It's clock source should be set to internal. The 2408's clock source will be the ADAT input to which the preamp is connected. For instance, if it's connection to the bank B ADAT input, you would set the PCI-424 system clock source to 2408: Bank B Optical.

Yes, exactly as you suggest, I connected the two devices - while the sync was made fine, the output was filled with noise exceeding 0db. It appears to be voodoo at this point.

And furthermore, my solution as previously stated, now apparently does not work either because trying both outputs of the preamp at the same time, I discovered that channel one outputs a non-periodic click in channel two. So I am ready to give up!!!!!!!!!

I read somewhere that the 2408 itself may be the problem, but I am now just guessing.
