Digital Performer Manual (not a PDF user manual topic)

Post by estudios.sdb »

I have splited coffee over my Digital Performer manual, it was very stupid actually. Most of it is still readable but it's now really ugly and that's not a nice thing to have around clients.

Just wondering if MOTU sells manuals! I've found hardware manuals at sale in MOTU's webpage but nothing about Digital Performer's one.

Do you know if they sell them? Should I e-mail them?

I'd contact MOTU. I've never had to ask them about this, but I've heard they're pretty cool about it. As long as you're a registered user, should be no problem.

If you can, just wait for the DP6 upgrade, you will have a new manual with it.

Yeah they sell some brand new manuals ,
it's around 600$ if you don't already have DP , and around 400$ as a cross grade update from AD/previous DP.

Taking fokof's post just as an illustration of what usually happens around here, I should say that I really don't understand this obsession in judging other users and automatically thinking they don't have a legitimate copy of DP whenever they ask anything about the manual. I think this post is perfectly credible. Even if it wasn't, we should give the user the benefit of the doubt before condemning him. This forum's tendency is such that the user even felt the need to write "not a PDF manual topic"...

Just my 2 cents...

"Loosing" the DP manual is a kin to "loosing" the spare tire on your car. They are just very difficult to not find. And while in theory I agree with you about guilty until proven innocent, fact is that I have yet to see a legit "I lost my manual" thread that wasn't suspicious and that didn't end up with the user disappearing off the board.

Maybe they threw up their hands and said f-it but then again, a registered user should have no problem calling MOTU and asking for a replacement. They are costly to duplicate and a charge is valid.

Also, this is a private board, and as such the owner can make any policy he wants. One such policy is zero tolerance for piracy. If dedicated members want to assist that owner in 'weeding out' pirates, they are free to do so. If someone doesn't like the policy, they are free to leave the forum and, as James is prone to say from time to time "get a complete refund."

Here's you're change:

The thing is most of the "I lost my manual is there a PDF version" threads are obvious cracks. Some have been so bold as to blatantly say as much. Maybe we shouldn't be so trigger happy when someone asks about a PDF manual, but usually it's done by someone who has one post here and just registered the day he or she sends out their dubious thread.

Now as for spilling coffee all over it, that I see as quite plausible and the OP did ask if anyone knows if MOTU will sell him another to which the answer is I don't know. I've never had to contact MOTU to get a second copy of a manual. They are however quite responsive in my experience, so as long as you are registered with them I can't imagine it would be a problem.

And all this said, I would LOVE a PDF version of the manual as it is so much easier to find things with a search engine than to guess how it might be phrased. OTHO, at this point, there is so little I need to look up any more that even a PDF would get little use - plus it's harder to take to the bathroom --- (lest it gets flagged!)

If I remember correctly, MOTU will sell you replacement manuals as long as you're registered for the product. You will probably need to get in touch with Customer Service:

i can see why people jump to the conclusion - I suppose I ultimately secretly think that every time I see new member asking the manual question..

But does make me wonder how many fervantly religous people we have on here ? any from Salem?

Coffee spill sounds totally viable - I guess if MOTU have your registration - then they won't ask you to mail the soggy pulp back to them - or would they?

bet it's like US$20 for the manual

if it's (the manual) mailed from portugal, back to motu and back to portugal it could turn into a $50 deal.......why not wait until dp 6 in a month or 6 weeks and just get a new manual then. Unless the client "ascetics" are that important. Just food for thought, unless your not going to upgrade to dp 6, then it is a different story. But your minute environmental impact by waiting may be worth consideration if you are going to upgrade.....
