License transfer?

Post by stabsteer »

I'm thinking of purchased MSI USED and want to be sure this won;t be a problem of some sort in terms up support/upgrades, etc for the future. It comes with the iLok and all roginal discs, etc. so the person would never be able to use it. I just wanted to be safe.

Thanks for any info!

Keep in mind that this site is not run by MOTU, so your question might be best answered by contacting MOTU directly with your question. If you need to find their contact info you can go to www.motu.com. You just want to make sure that the user will transfer the license to you and notify MOTU about it, but then I'm not sure how that works. Also, the iLok itself might be already registered in iLok.com to the person you are buying it from and I don't know if that could be a problem down the line either.

Generally, if things seem to get too complicated, I try to stay away from used software sales.

it's a bit complicated, but not terrible. I went through this process with M5II last fall.

assuming that the original owner of MSI has registered it with MOTU, that guy has to contact MOTU and inform them that he is transferring his registration to you. MOTU will tell him what all information about himself (and yourself) that they need. Then they will remove him from their records and add you.

The iLok is another matter. again, assuming that he has registered his iLok with PACE, there's a transfer fee and, I think, the purchase of another iLok that you can transfer the license on to.

like I said, MOTU is very helpful and relatively simple to get thru this, but check the PACE/iLok details carefully, more complicated.
