GPO, DP 5.13 & Intel Mac

Post by sdemott »

Anyone doing this? Looking at the GPO package and was wondering if anyone has been lucky with this combination?

I'm particularly interested in how well GPO works within DP 5.13 and what pitfalls others have had running GPO from within DP.

Any comments are welcome.

Thank you.

I'm on a PPC, but found that Leopard doesn't play well with Kontakt play 2 and GPO. My 'workaround' was to install the original player that came with GPO (K player 1, I think). I'm told there is a new install patch:

http://www.native-instruments.com/index ... 1fa9a74a5b

But haven't tried it in Leopard yet as I so rarely use GPO and the old player is working.

Hope that helps a little.

No, the installer patch is not out yet. Garritan instruments require Kontakt2 Player. Here's NI's note about that:
Note: The installer patch does not work for Kompakt, Intakt, and Kontakt Player-based products. A special installer patch for these products will be released separately.
They recently told me that the patch will be forthcoming very soon -- before NAMM, and possibly in the next week or two. But I was also told that the person did not have any hard facts. He had just sent a note to programming for their own best estimate. That answer had not reached him yet, so he was just giving me his best educated guess.

Not sure if you meant I was 'wrong' about this, but the fact is the original player that came with GPO works great in Leopard... go figure.

That would be great news. I've been told by both Garritan and Native Instruments that it does not. Of course, I'm on an Intel. You? Furthermore, NI instruments tend to work ok if you already have them installed. The bug is in the installer itself. And then there's another bug that occurs when you cause an NI plugin to give you a dialog with a Yes/No response. That will freeze your host app. (example: save a preset with the same name as a previous one. It will ask you to overwrite the previous one and give you a "Yes/No" response. At that point, you're frozen up. Infinite rainbow wheel. It happens in my copy of Akoustik Piano, which otherwise runs great in Leopard on my Intel.

FWIW, I'm on a PPC and installed the old player from the original disks last week (well after I was on Leo .2, so regardless of what NI & Gary G say, it worked for me... :) K2? Not so much...

I just got the Big band, solo Violin and solo Cello & they all work fine on Intel mac on 10.4.11 and DP 5.1.3-with one caveat- I'm using Kontakt 3.
I already had the Kontakt 2 player software installed and I recently crossgraded to Kontakt 3 so I just installed the librarries without the K2 players and it loaded fine. I used Service Center to authorize without a hitch. The only oddity I'm having is with the Big band- the Trumpet and Trombone plunger mute instruments are screwed up and they playback with a lot of white noise in the samples, rendering them useless. Otherwise everything is okay.

The issue is Leopard on an Intel, installing fresh for the first time. That's specifically what I have been told won't work. Other configurations may work, but those are not the configurations available to me. I will be installing Garritan's instruments straight out of the box, for the first time, on a Mac Pro with Leopard. I'm told it does not install properly. I am hoping that when I try it, they will be proved wrong. In the meantime, I would very much like to see Native Instruments get their installer for Kontakt 2 player posted on their website, as that's the only sure-thing.

Has anyone with the same situation as mine (installing Garritan libraries with the NI Kontakt2 player fresh for the first time into Leopard on a Mac Pro) had success?

I'm sorry- but I don't see Leopard mentioned in the initial post- it looked like it was about "DP 5.1.3 and Intel macs"- sorry to barge into your Leopard thread!

Not my thread, and Leopard wasn't in the original. It's just that there is some disagreement about what works and what doesn't, so I'm trying to be very specific about what isn't working. I didn't mean to hijack the thread. Still, if anyone has specific information about this, I'd really like to hear it. I'll bow out of discussion until it's appropriate for me to respond.

As far back as DP 4.5, was able to import GPO-for Finale and worked fine, after MOTU Tech Support advised me to purchase VST Wrapper from Audio Ease. On my MacBook Pro, the same process has a new Wrapper, it is by FXpansion, their VST to AU Adapter. I bought this one as well . . registered the GPO at the NI site, then added a GPO Instrument Track to the DP Tracks. Upon selecting one of the instruments on the GPO list, the dialogue box appears, saying that the copy of GPO is not registered, even though it is. I know it from having used the GPO as a piece I commissioned took shape in Finale over a four month period, using GPO-Multis. I considered buying Kontakt 3 but it seems to me, redundant, with no guarantee that it will work any better. The reason I wanted to import GPO is that, I want to import my entire commission, written in Finale, into DP and record the two saxophone
part over the MIDI version of the other parts. I want to use the same GPO "multi" my composer developed to play the Finale file to me. I am using Leopard OS, yet all of this happened before I made the switch. A year and a half ago, I could do the above, today, not.

BTW, welcome to the DP forum, saxprof. I assume you are Alan Rippe? I'm a saxophonist, myself, from NTSU. Competed at Gap, France in 1978. We probably have a lot of common friends. Do you use a WX-5 wind controller? (or WX-7 or WX-11?) Lots of good things happening these days for our kind!

Just upgraded my Altiverb

Post by saxprof »

Hello all, and especially Shooshie, is that anything like "Shoshie"? short in Israel for "Shoshana", and our Anglisized version, "Susanna". I probably need to know how to reply to a single person's response to my thread. There I could muse more freely; some re: my WX7 & EWI3000 but more interestingly my Yamaha and Selmer Saxophones of late. I look forward to putting Altiverb to use in my DP5xx environment. I never took to user screen names, consequently appearing as myself. I hope to get somewhere with my thread on "GPO for Finale" being successfully imported into DP, as it is certain that the compositions I have on file and the ones in progress, count on the idea of the composer on the other end, sometimes, in Turkey or Singapore, crafting "Multis" which I can then import into DP, so that I can make the "Demo". How else can I give the works legs? (Or worse, a "black-eye"?) I also use MSI, I have tried to actuate the same score using an "MSI Multi" I have assembled myself, . . . the MIDI responses aren't even a cousin of the same MIDI score, playing in Finale 2008 using the composer's "GPO-for Finale-Multi". I get cought up in my students once the term begins and sort of fade from this terriffic community, but for now, I like seeing what the rest of our DP Community is doing. I want to add a post now to the MSI board, check me there!

Great to see you, Alan. It's just Shooshie, (shoo shee) which is a Choctaw word meaning "bug." It was my grandfather's nickname, and when he died in 1994, the family started calling ME Shooshie, so I've gone by that name on the Internet. We're members of the Choctaw Nation. Interesting you should mention Shoshana, though, for my best friend -- who was Jewish and who died tragically just this past August -- and I used to discuss our heritage and realized after watching Schindler's List together many years ago, that we actually have much in common that is not often brought to light. Anyway, this is probably not the place for that, but it would make a good conversation some day. BTW, I saw somewhere that you went to Hartt College. You might know an old friend of mine, Dennis Diemond. I haven't been in contact with him in ages, but in the 70s/80s we were pretty close.

As for the GPO, mine is on order and just shipped today. I should get it in a a week, and then we might start trying to unravel this riddle, if you haven't already figured it out by then. I think the answer is going to be in an update from Native Instruments in their Kontakt2 Player. We'll see.

Talk to you later,

Shooshie

GPO-"for Finale 2008" vs GPO within Kontakt 2

Post by saxprof »

Great, I'm anxious to see how the Kontakt 2 Plug-Ins work. Whether there is a difference in the way that GPO within Kontakt 2 imports to DP5 and the GPO supplied with Finale 2008, that, I'd like to know. Very fine artwork Shooshie. The Choktow Nation is also our indigenous people in the Memphis area. We have an archeological village, found on the the Mississippi bank. In Philadelphia, Mississippi, there is a resort which was established by the nation. Dennis Diamond was a friend of mine at Hartt, I remember that he and I both like fishing. He has recorded one of the best Bach A minor Partita's (unacc. flute). I'm saving my Kontakt2 money for their new product called GEM, a GM set which will give my GM files a new life.
