You know, Logic tends to studder a little on first playback, something which may have driven DP to crash on first try. Maybe it's an OSX thing?

Metronome different in 5.13

Post by engstones »

You can't change the metronome speed setting from the main startup windows in 5.13? It was working in 5.12...? You have to go into the preference click window to change the metronome speed.

You know I'm kind of PISSED like a MF. I had my powerbook stolen, so I waited until the new Santa Rosa Macbooks were out. Once out, unknown to me then, the intel-macs wouldn't work with 4.5,,,,understandable. But when speaking with tech support my buddy "wont give his name" said"Oh ya, upgrade and both your 828 and 5.12 will work perfectly with Leopard and your new intel. After three weeks of partitioning/unpartitioning/booting tiger/booting leopard/ unbooting tiger/rebooting leopard/pulling my fkin hair out,,, I'm PISSED.

Now the one function I change 300x's a day has to be operated through the preference commands. GDAMN someone tell me I'm just super charged and am missing something..?

And another thing, the VI for 5.12, 5.12.1, 5.12.1.2.3.4 and 5.13 seem to come and go as they please in the instrument track list, WTF

A couple more days have passed, more sessions, more coffee, no crashes. Just one that I will not consider "valid" because I know it came from a Native Instruments plugin crash. Can I say Native Instruments and CRASH freely? :)

Anyway, clear sailing here as well ;) one note: background processing and general file handling/GUI/saves and other DAW behaviors seem faster and smoother. Makes it harder for the retro guys to say there's no pro in upgrading.
Alberto.

Working hard to try and get a project finished but I'm gonna take the leap the second I'm through it. Thanks for the reports! Alberto, do you use Mach 5 two in your setup?

G5 dual 2.0 ghz
3.5 gigs ram
OSX 10.4.10
DP 5.13 all smooth here.

5.12 had some horribly annoying MIDI editing bugs.
I would drag one black dot of modwheel data, or volume data, or any kind of data, as soon as I released it, DP would move the dot, but also place a dot in the old location over and over and over,... it kept filling in dots in between the old dot location and the newly attempted location. It took six or more tries to get rid of the original dot. At least that seems to be a thing of the past.

Terrible for a program that was at one time known for it's amazing MIDI sequencing.

Tool tips are still annoying as ever... GAWD!

No. DP is not compiled to use 64-bit nor are all plugins. EVERYTHING has to be compiled to 64-bit and I don't see that happening for quite a while.

Not experienced that. I just finished day 2 of a 3 day Logic 8 certification class - wow, what a program! I couldn't wrap my head around Logic 7, but Logic 8, holy cow. DP got to me when I upgraded to a MacPro in sept 06. Out of 15 years of performer/DP, that upgrade "crashed" my patience. DP is sooo far behind the mac hardware/OS curve, I'll never go back. I loved DP. I can run it blind folded. It was already behind with a lot of features (#1 being latency), but the constant crashing sealed it's fate. Lack of plug-in support, can't use OS 10.5? Enough with the boundaries. How long did it take to get MACH V to work on Intel Macs? We deserve better than that. Much better.

Sorry for the cometary, I had to get it off my chest.

I would be interested in hearing more.
After suffering through some nightmarish crashing in DP 5.0. Simply knowing that MOTU knew what was going on and wouldn't deal respectfully with users really ticked me off. I've been a faithful user of DP since 2.41 and the original 2408. But I really need a program that works, doesn't crash and works solidly. I have Pro Tools LE 7.1, but I much prefer what I can do with DP. I've owned Logic 2.5, but hated that one, long before Apple purchased it. So needless to say I am ready to take a look again at Logic with what I am hearing about 8.
By the way, do you have any experience with the HD192 and Logic 8? If so, how well does CueMix work when working in Logic. Any latency issues?

At least Traveler works perfectly with Logic. Don't hesitate to check out Logic Studio, it can be a life changing experience 8)
