Hey MLC, well look at that, you've inspired a lurker to come out and post. Funny thing, I felt the same way helping out a couple windows users that never bothered to follow up. Then I see things like how gentle Frodo is / was / will be again with the newbies even after everything he went through.... and of course the community here.... it's all worth it, of course they'll be some abuse.... it's ok .... the amount of good here, far outweighs the bad. ... all about balance, yes??? MLC, I love your new(ish) avatar. Everytime I see it, I refocus for a sec, and pay attention to that which is important....please don't change it ....lol Have a good day bud!

Hey AJS, I researched DP / Mac purchase and was lurking here for about a year, before I did my studio upgrade, and had anything useful to post about (that's still debatable....ible uggg) Welcome!!!

Regards, Rob

AJS Music wrote:I have to admit, I'm only a lurker and my frequenting of unicornation is sporadic: the recent release of Logic Studio brought me back here. I do not own DP, but I used to use Performer as my sole sequencer back in the early 90s. Currently, from MOTU, I only use MSI and, by extension, an iLok. ;)

Thus, I have not had much to post about.

However, I do like to read what is going on and would also like to compliment James on the way he runs a "tight ship". From my observations this is a well-focussed and close-knit community and there is a wealth of information and useful tips available for those prepared to seek them out.

So, MLC (I love the user title, btw) ... I just want to point out that not all newbies, or those with low post counts, are ungrateful gits. Sure, some may display a complete lack of courtesy (perhaps decency) by getting what they want and running without so much as a thank you. On the other hand, there are others, like myself, who read and quietly absorb what they need to. And, in the interests of balancing out the negativity and frustration you were experiencing, I'd like to say thanks to all of you in the unicornation community. I may not say much, but I appreciate knowing that you are here. :)
Thank you very much for sharing this, AJS Music!
FWIW, it means a lot to me too; as was the case with Rob, I lurked and absorbed for a year before I even had the courage to partake in the festivities, so I know how it feels to do this, and how entertaining and informative it can be.
Hang, it was quite gratifying from memory. :D

Why, thank you very much. It has been my salvation in a crowded space. Keeps the world from caving in on me! And I do enjoy it, too. It makes me happy that it brings enjoyment to others, as well.

Outside of that, let me thank you for de-lurking and speaking your mind. Your words are very true and wise. I'm glad you came back even to tell us this. It helps to hear things like this from someone outside the normal group.

MLC- I'm happy if I made your day a touch brighter. ;) Seriously, I do enjoy popping in here now and then.

robstudio - Thanks for the welcome. :) I'm not convinced I'll end up purchasing DP - but I will always have a soft spot for MOTU and intend to maintain some connection with them as my collection of hobby based music making tools evolves.

monkey man - I'm originally from Melbourne myself but am living o/s now. I remember wondering how many registered MOTU users there actually were in Melbourne many years ago. I used to love receiving that big MOTU newsletter. (I can't recall the name now - but I know I have the complete collection back home.) Remember the original MTP and then the VTP when MOTU first ventured into hardware by any chance? What heady days they were. ;)

Shooshie - Thanks for your reply too. I'm glad if my small contribution helps boost the morale or spirit for a while. We all need to know when we're doing a good job ... and for MOTU users this place is the best.

Having said this, I now feel obligated to admit something. I just checked my post history and I left a thank you off to two posters in 2005. :( So, rather than bump the old threads, I'd like to offer a belated thanks to mastermix and dimensiondk for your advice on how to best prepare my old G4TiPB for use with DP 4 when I was considering a potential purchase. (I didn't end up doing it though.)

One more thing. I posted a link to an arrangement I made in the MSI forum. But, for some reason, I could not get the url tags to work. Any tips there? And, if you'd care to listen I'd value your feedback. Link to my thread. :)

URL tags:

For a straight URL, without a titled link, just paste the url into your post, like this:

http://homepage.mac.com/ajsonego/.Music/In the gutter.mp3

For a link, here's the way:

Code: Select all

[url=http://homepage.mac.com/ajsonego/.Music/PP-ep3 _In the gutter_ - orchestral.mp3]Orchestral Arrangement[/url]
I add an underline, because in this forum links practically disappear against the gray background and text. So, mine goes like this:

Code: Select all

[url=http://homepage.mac.com/ajsonego/.Music/PP-ep3 _In the gutter_ - orchestral.mp3][u]Orchestral Arrangement[/u][/url]

Wups... after posting, I realized the problem. You've got spaces in your filename. Spaces are not allowed!

Also, I'm not certain as to whether we can access your Music folder. Does anyone know this? I've always used the Public folder, which of course requires the /user/.Public/filename.mp3 tag. It looks like you've done the same with the Music folder, so maybe it will work, too. But spaces DEFINITELY won't work.

I have QuicKeys shortcuts for all the above, so it's very easy for me to make links or post pictures, usually just a keystroke. For different forums, I use the same keys with different modifiers. There are several implementations of markup language in various forums.

If you use FireFox, you might want to check out the Make Link extension with the Forum Code Setting. It gives you a contextual menu item that lets you copy the url to the clipboard with the page title as the link text.

Thanks Shooshie - I renamed those files and took the spaces out. :)

(Now that I've fixed my original post, could you do me a favour please and remove those examples in that post above? I don't feel comfortable having my homepage details exposed on a forum in plain view. I appreciate your efforts and posting what you did though, so thanks again.)

rcannonp - Thanks for the suggestion but I'm fine with incorporating the BB tags manually - I was just unsure as to why my filename url was being broken. All fixed now though. :)
