MOTU m4: usb a vs usb c

Post by matt777 »

I own a motu m4 which I use with a windows 10 system. Does it make a difference if I connect the device on my usb a or usb c port at the mainbord (in context of Ali d quality) or does is not really matters?

Maybe — but not for the reasons you might think.

USB-C is a port, not a protocol. Not all USB-C cables support USB 2 and there have been many noise complaints that include "…except when I use the MOTU supplied cable…" Some cables claim to support USB 2 and are not wired correctly.

A USB 2 cable will include in its spec, "480 Mbps data transfer speed".

A USB-B to USB-A cable should have a charging spec of 10W (5V 2Amp). A USB 2 over USB-C cable will spec at 15W (5V, 3 Amp). Either cable will power an M4.

If you need a longer cable than the ones that come with your M4, keep this in mind when shopping. Here is a 6' cable on Amazon.
