2408 MKII and Audient ID22

Post by edised »

I am trying to give my trusty old 2408 a second life.
My goal is to use it in conjunction with an Audient ID22 to get more inputs, basically to use outboard hardware within DP.

I have got 2 problems.
The first one is that my analog jack input numbers don't match my digital output in the Audient Mixer.
Say, I have got an input in my 2408 #8 and it will go to my Digi #5 on the Audient Mixer.
(I suppose I could live with that as long as I know which is which)

The second problem is that I am trying to use the hardware insert plugin in DP but I can't seem to get it working with this configuration. I would like to be sending a track to Audient 5-6 within the plugin and get the return from another 2408 output, but I can't get it to work...
Any ideas?

Not nearly enough information.

You are telling us what you see but not what you are trying to do nor how you have things hooked up. Since the Audent doesn't support CoreAudio, the OS is important as well.

Thanks for your response, you are right I didn't give enough information.

I am trying to use inputs and outputs via ADAT between my Audient ID22 and my 2408mkII

What I am trying to do is use the 2408 to get additional inputs (which seems to work)
But also I'd like to get outputs so I could use the hardware insert plugin in DP to use a hardware Reverb.

I have 2 optical cables linking both interfaces, in to out and out to in in ADAT bank B
I have both tried in standalone mode and via the PCI424 (used MOTU PCI setup to tick ADAT Bank B inputs and outputs to be on).
I have tried both internal, and adat clock.

My audient ID22 Mixer App sees the additional inputs, but whenever I try to send some sound to the 2408 digital output, I get nothing....
I hop this is a bit more clear...

I have also tried to use the Audient alongside the Motu without any ADAT connection using only analog inputs/outputs, but they don't work well together and I am limited to the 1024 buffer size of the 2048 and considering my mac is quite old the extra buffer size is very useful when I am mixing. I also get occasional crackling...

my MOTU PCI software is up to date with High Sierra...

What Mac do you have? This might make a difference.

In the meantime, I would start at pg 25 and get familiar with what is and isn't possible with optical and the 828mkII.

It's an old Macpro from 2010...
I am holding on to it because I have got UAD and MOTU PCI cards...

Thanks for the link!

From what I can gather with ADAT you can't go In AND Out.

I also have to see if I can find the 2408 which must be somewhere

You have two optical ports. The manual indicates that you can configure one to In and the other to Out but you may not be able to do so simultaneously in Stand-alone mode. Remember that the Audent's Out goes to the In on the 828 and vise versa. You should be able to configure while hooked up to your Mac, however. While hooked up to the Mac, you have many settings that are unavailable through the front panel—they should Save and be available in Stand-alone (for best results, turn the 628 off before disconnecting).

There have been reports of 828mkIIs not saving settings anymore. The newest units are nearly 18 years old if yours doesn't, old age is the culprit. There is no settings battery in one of these.

With the 828 connected via FireWire, you can create an Aggregate Device in Audio MIDI Setup.app. The manual discusses this and Apple has several Support docs on it as well. This is not possible over Windows.

For anyone still owning a first gen 828, those do not function in Stand-alone.

Thanks very much I didn't think about the battery, obviously my 2408 is from 2001, so there is a chance that the battery is off.
I was wondering why I couldn't set it up in PCI mode and keep the settings in standalone...

I have to try this, otherwise it would mean I would need 2 units to achieve what I want to do...

It has been years since I've looked inside a 2408 but I think it takes a CR2032 battery like the 2408mkII and 2408mkIII.
