Importing Audio Created BY Logic Express 7.1.1 (Mac)

Post by emanofnc »

hello all.
does any know how I can import audio tracks (Individual) created by Logic exprees into DP4.5 so it plays back in DP 4.5 EXCACTLY like it did in The original Logic file. I am trying to use DP plugins to complete a project initiated in Logic express. When move the files into DP, the audio tracks all play back "out of arrangement" i.e they play back with parts in wrong order and time. I want the imported DP files to maintain the original Logic express arrangement. In other words how do I move files to the right timeline locations without spending a lifetime to do it.
thanks 8)

Smartest thing to do is Freeze tracks, take the audio from the freeze tracks folder and use itunes to convert the aiff's to a DP readable format then import them. All tracks will start at Zero, so no lining up necessary. I do it all the time :)

Now I use Barbabatch to convert the Frozen files.

ok I'll giv it a shot.
I take it that this is the "best" way to do this.
And that I cannot effectivley use the "native"(Unfrozen) Logic Express audio files?

You can, but it is way more work (like you siad, all the lining up)

Freeze tracks is the best way for the least amount of headache

excatly how do you get the frozen tracks into itunes, then into DP.
I cant seem to get that part to work. Do I need to make a folder for the files,or drag and drop into DP soundbites?

I actually prefer Barbarabatch but itunes is free.

Open itunes, create a new playlist folder

Tips to make it easy to find... I change the preferences for the itunes folder location to the desktop for this procedure

For importing I change the prefernece to aiff encoder and leave it on automatic

Grab the Freeze Tracks folder of your Logic project...place it into that playlist folder

Highlight the tracks and select Convert under the itunes Advanced Pull down menu. It will create a folder on your desktop inside will be an unknown artists folder. those are your DP ready converted tracks. Drag and drop to the soundbits window and happy mixing.

Seems like a lot, but do it once and you get the idea. Moves really smoothly.

The reason you have to convert is that logic uses a nonstandard aif file type with the Frozen tracks that DP cannot natively import.

You might end up with a bunch of stereo tracks depending upon your track settings at the time you froze the tracks.

Also names will be cryptic. There is a poreference for that but I cant seem to get it to work with the renamed tracks in Logic.

Logic use 32-bit AIFF files by default for freezing. However, in the prefs, you can select if you prefer 24-bit or 16-bit files. That way, you don't have to re-encode your freeze files before using them with DP.

thanks all,
thats got it!
one problem, though this paticular project left me with 24 of these converted files, that I can't seem to "multi drag" from bites window into the tracks window. I can select all files at once but the tracks window only accepts one of the files, forcing me to drag em one at a time. is this correct?

Where in the prefs is that option I'd love to find it. Of course nothing in the manual that I have been able to find.....

Addendum. I have scanned the LE 7 Manual from back to front and cannot find anything related to changing bit depth of Frozen Files

Sorry, my mistake. This is a Logic Pro feature only.

Thought so. LOL not worth another 700 to save 5 minutes worth of work.

Maybe later in the future.

Your issue is a combination of Mono and Stereo files. You just gotta figure out whihc are which. Should be easy cuz time wise they are the same length so the Mono files should be smaller than the stereo files. :)

The other issue is multiple files dragged at once will tile on one track so you have to one by one drag them down to another track.

I tend to do this in the sequence window. Easier to see when I do the drags.

Been back and forth with that one for the most part I never click 24 bit, but that is for Recording, not freeze tracks....
