How do I buy Ethno Instruments VI?

Post by Alicorn 935/960 »

Hello.
Pardon me if I am missing something completely obvious...
When logged into MOTU website/shop I can't buy Ethno Instruments? I have DP 11.33
Isn't it a complete digital download?
Do I have to buy V1 first then upgrade?
When I click "buy" it just gives me a list of dealers with the option of international distributors.
(I am in Sydney, Australia).

It just doesn't allow me to buy and download it for windows for some reason. 8-/
I do feel a facepalm moment coming on... probably...... :surrender:

You are correct. Ethno Instruments is no longer available for purchase directly from MOTU, only the upgrade to v.2. One must go through a reseller. Sweetwater sells the full version of Ethno2 for $374US.

Ethno and an other VI libraries were licensed from UVI. MOTU still sells them but development has ceased. Unless you are running Windows 7 or earlier, there is no reason to buy it now.

UVI, however, has continued development. The current version of what was once Ethno is now UVI World Suite 3 and is hosted in either the free UVI Player or Falcon. Likewise, it supports Win 10/11 and the current macOS.

https://www.uvi.net/en/world/world-suite-3.html

You also get 65GB libraries instead of 21GB. Oh, it’s priced less at $299US.

If you have MOTU MachFive, you can email UVI and ask if their crossgrade to Falcon is still available. Many of us have over the years but it’s been a long time since that offer was first made.

https://www.uvi.net/falcon

Falcon includes a $50 voucher that you can apply to any other UVI Soundware including WS3.

Hmmmm... I just logged into my UVI account and see that a $40 Loyalty Voucher was placed into it last week. I bet they want me to spend some money... I already have World Suite 3 so what to buy... what to buy?

Mike as usual your answers cover all possibilities and variations of the subject at hand.

I went on to investigate the issue and came up with similar results but you offer far more relevant facts
than I was able to reveal.

Thank you so much champ and looks like no facepalm is deserved by me this time! 8^)

Ignore below... that's old info. Apparently not the case anymore. :)

One thing that you CAN do, is if you install an older pre-Apple Silicon version of UVI Workstation, you can open the original Ethno 2 ufs image. Apparently the iLok license cannot be recognized unless the either DP is running in Rosetta 2, or the plugin has not Apple Silicone code and thus runs in Rosetta 2 itself.

The newer UFS volumes that MOTU subsequently released don't have this issue, but don't think they ever released an updated Ethno2.ufs.

According to MOTU, this has been corrected unless I am reading this wrong:

https://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/ ... nd-big-sur
MOTU Virtual Instruments and Big Sur or Later

MachFive, Ethno Instrument, BPM, Electric Keys, and Symphonic Instrument (any version) are not compatible with macOS Big Sur or later.

As a workaround, the UVI Workstation instrument (free) can read the soundbank libraries from all of these products and can be installed on macOS Big Sur.

Visit the link below to download and install UVI Workstation:
https://www.uvi.net/uvi-workstation.html

After it's installed, move the soundbanks for MachFive, Ethno Instrument, BPM, Electric Keys or Symphonic Instrument to the following location on your computer:

Mac: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/UVISoundBanks
Win: C:/ProgramFiles/UVISoundBanks

IMPORTANT: Be sure to download the latest updated soundbank (UFS) files from motu.com/download.

Ahhh... I stand (or sit) corrected. I don't remember downloading a new Ethno2.ufs, but indeed it works in the latest UB2 UVI Workstation as well as Falcon. That's nice. Maybe I can finally delete my old pre-AS UVI Workstation off my drive. In the past I was using a workaround running the old AU and the new VST3 side by side and choosing whichever was appropriate for the library I was trying to open. I'll be nice not to worry about that. :D

IMPORTANT: Be sure to download the latest updated soundbank (UFS) files from motu.com/download.
A small note: In my experience, MachFive3 does not work with the “latest updated sound bank files”. Fortunately, I kept a set of the orginal sound banks on my sample drive in case I ever need them (along with the latest UFS files that I run in Falcon).
