100% Repeatable Crash Switching to Clips Window

Happy New Year, everyone! Except for me, apparently. I get a 100% repeatable crash in the following case (DP11.33 on Mojave):

1. New empty project
2. Add stereo audio in
3. Add a MIDI channel
4. Hit the Clips button
5. SBBD

I can alternate steps 3 and 2 and I still crash loading the Clips window. Sheesh. - Winslow

What happens if you reboot your Mac first?

Just tested I'm not getting that crash, but important information is missing here.

I'm on Sequoia, using an M2 Studio Ultra, with DP 11.33. I get a repeatable crash when I first open any project and use the Solo button on the Channel Strip. The fun part, it's not happening in Sonoma on the Macbook Air here. It does happen on a friends M2 Mac Pro with Sequoia, and again does not happen on a friend's Intel Mac with Catalina.

So it's very obviously a Sequoia and DP11 issue, it might be only on Apple Silicon Macs, and it's up in the air whether it's Apple or MOTU that are to blame. It's likely a bit of code in DP that got exposed by ever tightening security measures Apple is doing with each new OS version.

Point is you need to share your complete setup, the conflict could be with hardware, OS, or driver etc.

I'll take a look and see if I can repeat that.

I just logged into my Sequoia 15.2 Volume and tried to duplicate that. No can do. That build of DP has no 3ed party plug-ins, however. Neither does it have any of the Permissions issues that plagued me on my System drive that I reverted back to Sonoma 14.7.2.

Well, well, well: 11.22 does not crash. 11.33 crashes if there is more than one track (any type). Bizarre. It crashes if I load a project with more than one track, and it crashes when I add more than one track to any otherwise empty project. I'm on a mid 2012 Mac Pro 5,1, btw.

So I'm curious, you have a Sequoia instal on your M2 Studio I'm guessing?
Beyond that the procedure is pretty simple, I have the Channel strip opened up as a fader on the left hand side. When you first open a project if you select the solo button on the fader with a mouse, it reliably crashes DP. If you select a few other buttons on the strip first it will not crash. I have a buddy in Philly with an M2 that replicated it as well.

I removed all other peripherals besides an old USB Logitech mouse, and USB keyboard, uninstalled drivers that related to the curser like UPDD and Logitech etc. so yeah if it's not repeatable on your Sequoia install that's weird?

Not happening on M1/Sonoma

Yep, it's Sequoia specific, I have an M1 Air here and it doesn't crash.

Correct. I cannot duplicate it.

So many of my Sequoia issues (100% of them) were caused by my Permissions being hosed, let's see if this is one of them.

Right-click on the DP icon in Applications and select Show Package Contents.

Run Get Info on the Contents folder, unlock the padlock with your Admin password.

Highlight System which should be showing Read & Write (if not, change it)

Click on the down-carat, then onto Apply to enclosed items... Then OK the pop-up screen that follows.

Try this first. If unsuccessful, do the same for /Library/Application Support/MOTU and Users/Shared/Library/Application Support/MOTU

I had to do this for most of my apps and a number of Library files before I could get Mail. Music, Time Machine, TurboTax, Native Access and many other apps working. It was a few weeks of hell and Apple Support & Engineering couldn't figure it out—I had to tell them.

I tried to get into Band-In-A-Box yesterday and got an error stating that certain items could not be found. After confirming in Find Any File that they were exactly where they should be, I right-clicked on the icon in Applications folder—you know the rest—and everything was good again.

Ugh, I had hoped your solution would work, but unfortunately nada, did all three locations and no difference. Description, movie and crash log sent to a beta tester I know, because unfortunately Tech Links is broken at my location anyway, every time I hit submit the webpage freezes. :banghead:

Sorry to hear that the support ticket system is not working for you - if you could please PM me with all of the details and contents of your attempted submission (text, system info file, any attachments), I will try to get this sorted for you.

Sent you a PM with a dropbox link etc. Thanks Jared, it's frustrating that Tech Links sometimes freezes on submission here, I'm in Seattle on a high speed connection etc.

Last month, I tried submitting a bug report to MOTU on two different browsers (Firefox and Safari), and the page stopped responding after clicking "Submit." I reported that on another Contact MOTU link (maybe for sales), asked for a regular email to report the issue, and still haven't gotten a reply.

This phenomenon also occurs with INTEL Macs.
My computer environment is
MacPro 2013
Xeon
MacOS:Monterey

I am gradually learning how this phenomenon occurs and how to avoid it.

In my environment, this happens 100% of the time when I add the “Control Surface” driver. I have a KONPLETE KONTROL M32, so I had to add a driver for it in the “Control Surface Settings”. If I add two or more tracks, the ClipWindow does not open and the rainbow circle appears.

However, if all Control Surfaces are removed, this phenomenon is 100% avoided and ClipWindow will start normally even if many tracks are added.

If Control Surfaces are added again, ClipWindow will not start. This is the appearance of the Rainbow Circle.

I would be grateful if you all could try this workaround to see if this happens only in my environment.
