Mid Tempo map
I am in the process of testing 12 different Daw's
I have the Lite Version that came with my Motu M4 interface.
One test is I use a GM MIDI file that has a tempo map as well as Program changes.
So please correct me if I am wrong.
It will Open a MIDI file.
It named the tracks,
no GM player so no sound.
No tempo map.
The tempo map is the most critical as this is essential to transfering projects from other Daw's.
I might be doing something wrong so please provide steps to take to Open a MIDI GM file and include all the data and if possible provide GM MIDI playback.
Thank you.

Re: Mid Tempo map
You might want to install the full version of DP... free 30 day trial. I don;t know what the Lite version is capable of.
Full DP definitely reads tempo data from MIDI files if the data is included.

Thank you that's good to know. Never occurred that something this basic would be excluded.
I tried the demo of the full version last march. I never got very far with it because it would never remember my audio set up. A Motu M4. Every new day when I'd open the software it was reverting to Core Audio??? I'm on a PC. This was a deal breaker for me so I uninstalled it. The Lite version doesn't have this issue.

Of course it’s included. The User Guide is 639 pages and mentions Tempo Map 110 times. Searchable pdf files are your friend.johnvere wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:14 am Thank you that's good to know. Never occurred that something this basic would be excluded.

Performer Lite has tech support including telephone and MOTU schedules live beginner classes.
No one is complaining about DP not remembering setup on PCs so whatever is going on with your setup should be addressed. MOTU has support for that, too. If you need to reset the clock on the demo, ask them.
Not many around here use PL. I’m familiar with it only because some of my collaborators use it. It has restrictions that make it unusable for my work, the biggest being the lack of DP’s Soundbite Editor and the inability to save User Templates (there are workarounds but you have to remember to use them). If you can live with that and the track restrictions (16 Audio, 16 MIDI, 16 Aux), PL is pretty good. The MOTU instruments and percussion tracks are the same that you get with DP.
I’ve been asking MOTU to allow User Templates and have been correcting the documentation for years.

Re: Mid Tempo map
Thank you for you information. I only installed the Lite version to evaluate it and never planed to use it. I still have it installed on my testing computer. I have been using Sonar/Cakewalk for 20 years. But last year they were dragging their heals about the pricing of the new Sonar, so many of us were shopping for alternatives. Many switched to Studio One or Cubase the closest in features. Cakewalk was free for last 8 years so there was a quest for free or inexpensive Daw's as well.
I decided to document my quest and I put out a video back in March where I covered the majority of currant Daw's. I think I installed 17 different Daw's. It was a very brief overview focusing on pricing and things like how easy or complicated the demo was to install and use.
The demo's of Ableton and DP got tossed early on writing them off as being made for Mac's. Audio was the main issue with both. All the other Daw's simply asked you if you wanted to use your interface and used the default settings ( ASIO/ 48/ 256) during first run and that was it. I found it very weird that DP didn't even recognize it's own interface and had to be re set on each run?
I'm now making a follow up video where I am taking what daw's I now have on hand ( 12) through a few workflows to see how they compare. This is why I asked the question here because I only have the Lite version which I guess is more or less pointless to evaluate.
I can easily install the demo of the full version again. I've had to do this for a few others. I now have an SSL2 interface so possibly DP will recognize that. Thank you.

Re: Mid Tempo map
I used DP on Windows for over a year with a MOTU M4 interface and not once did DP ask me to reconfigure the audio. IIRC on first run of DP on Windows, its default config is Windows Audio. Once ASIO is selected in hardware setup, no issues after that.

Re: Mid Tempo map
Thank you for reply.
Yes it was a weird one because it was set to Core Audio. I even checked that I had actually installed the Windows version.
I also think I checked to make sure I had set up and saved the audio settings correctly each time.
I'll be downloading the full version again and give it one more try.
At the time I was demoing DP I had installed a few other Daw's as well.
One of them Ableton which somehow messed with my whole audio system and I had to uninstall it to get things right. It's possible that was the cause at the time.
