DP11.3 and video output for scoring to picture Apple Silicon

Post by mtwo »

With the recent updates to DP and Apple OS There is no longer support for BlackMagic Design video cards. Which is very sad for myself. Wondering what other scoring users are dong for video output to large TV or monitor for clients or other studio uses such as ADR. Thanks in advance for any and all creative solutions.

I really don't have much experience with this... (so why are you replying you ask?)... but sometimes it helps to get the ball rolling. You might actually be able to use DP's built in Movie window and send out via HDMI or Display Port to HDMI adapter to a large monitor without any problems. Might be okay if you have an Ultra version of the M chip... pretty powerful GUP and lots of cores... might work fine on lesser chip, too. Not sure.

But that might not work for you. I know there are some apps that run in the background and will sync up with your DAW. I was trying to do a Google search for what I think is the most common one, but not sure this is it:

I think there might be others that do the same thing. I'm hoping that by replying some folks that are more knowledgeable about this will pipe up.

I just do what James said. Works nicely. Native HDMI on my Mac Studio drives a 75" TV, which I also use as my main display, but sure works fine when a client wants to see and hear. It is mounted on a stand that allows me to raise it higher when viewing picture. Second monitor is connected via USB C to Display Port adaptor.

Although Apple Silicon does not support eGPU, there are plenty of discussions on the Blackmagic boards about using PCIe cards inside the M2 Mac Pro while some claim to have eGPU working over Thunderbolt 4..
