Eventide Blackhole and Mac Studio performance hit

I recently purchased a Mac studio M2, and was therefore surprised--in a bad way--how one instance of Blackhole would cause the performance meter to spike. I can see this spike happen when I click on the meter, and indeed blackhole can cause a given processor to pin.
I've been in contact with Eventide, and they could reproduce the problem. This has to do with M2 (and possibly M3) processors. Hopefully a fix is in the works--soon.

Hmmmm... I was about to mention that I haven't had any problem, and then I saw you mention M2 and M3 processors. Makes sense as I'm on M1 Max. It's so strange that there are these problems. I know there were issues with Kontakt 7 for a while that was affecting M2/M3 but not M1. Hopefully Eventide gets on it quickly!

Are you on the latest version of Sonoma?

Yes. 14.5. It's actually in my forum sig, but if you're using Tapatalk, you can't see that.

I'm out of town, so when I get home I'll load the plugin to double check, but I know there have been several examples now of issues that affect M2/M3, but do not affect M1 systems. Weird.

Did they say anything about who whether Eventide or Apple might be doing the fix?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was replying to the OP.

Not yet, but if someone's gonna fix it, it'll either be Eventide or MOTU, according to Etide.

Update to macOS 14.5. This fixed a number of issues that affected the M2 and M3 Macs, DAWs and plug-ins.

Thanks, Mike.
Is there a thread that already contains the things there were solved by moving to 14.5? If not, can you give us a couple of nuggets?

There are a few threads on this but none mention Eventide. Since Blackhole and other plug-ins can be accessed from within Kontakt, this is no surprise.
Kontakt was the big one and Apple was the culprit. A few of us were on the front lines of this issue and I was in contact (pardon the pun) with Apple and NI on this while keeping MOTU informed with every development and beta. Logic, Reaper and DP were most affected DAWs but not the only ones. I've circled what you need to know.

Back in town. Just checked and Eventide Blackhole is fine on my system. Not major CPU hit. Seems to bounce between 1.5 and 3% in Effects meter. I'm on M1 Max Mac Studio and Sonoma 14.5.

A belated thanks for this Mike! Computer shutdown, eh? I'm surprised to be reading this, as I thought MacOs was better protected from applications. Can you explain what "clamshell mode" is?

Yea, this is indeed an M2, and possibly M3 thing. BUT, as I'll post separately, the latest DP seems to have solved the crazy usage problem, but I'm seeing more like 7-10 ish%.
