New Monterrey Update 12.6.2 out today.

I noticed there’s an update to Monterrey available today. Just be careful not to start the Ventura update. Click the blue “More Info…” link under "Other updates are available." under the Ventura update and you’ll see it. There's also a Safari update.

No prob. All seems working fine here. I'm too scared to go to Ventura just yet.

Same here. But I can't do the 12.6.2 update either as I didn't see it until half an hour ago, and I'm about to drop. The 12.6.1 update was very problematic and lengthy for me. This one seems paired with a Safari update, which also scares me as the last Safari update wiped my browser tabs and history and I haven't had time to restore them from Time Machine. I rarely use Safari anymore, but I do have important research tabs for my day job, albeit ones that aren't of current high priority.

You don’t HAVE to do the Safari update. I did it without incident but it takes a while and quite a few self-restarts.

Oh! Maybe it's OK now, but I just did the latest update during dinner and am still waiting got macOS Monterey 12.6.2 to finish preparing (it rarely updates the progress bar). I figure things can't get any worse so I may as well.

Crossing my fingers for you! I have noticed that these latest updates take longer than they used to. Used to be that when it would say "20 minutes remaining" it wasn't REALLY 20 minutes. Now it seems it takes as long as advertised AND there are multiple self-reboots during the process. It is unnerving. So much so, I do not leave the room during and update and sit there like an idiot watching the screen. That's how shaken my confidence is in system updates.

Too sad. The Apple experience is not what it was.

Glad to hear it. It went smoothly for me, too. However, I no longer walk away during an update. Call me OCD, but I sit there and watch as I'm nervous during updates. Less so now that I know there are APFS snapshots to really on should something go south.
Also, it's a small thing, but I'd lived dangerously for years without my Mac on an Uninterruptible Power Supply. An incident where I accidentally pulled a power cable out of the wall while the Mac was on (fortunately nothing serious like a system update was in progress) convinced me it was time. So Mac Studio and a few other things are on the UPS as they should always have been.

It could just be my OCD/paranoia. If I think hard about it, I don't think I may have ever had a system update go seriously wrong requiring any sort of recovery, but honestly the do scare me. Like I mentioned to Mike, I finally did the right thing and have a UPS now. From what I understand, a power interruption during an OS update/upgrade can pretty much hose your system, but for all I know Apple may have built in some ability to recover from that. It's just that I feel my system is most "vulnerable" during an OS update/upgrade, so I watch the entire process and don't walk away until it's done. Yeah... like I said... paranoia.

It's even more fun if you have an external GPU connected. I don't get boot screens running off my RX6600 XT, which means the progress bars for the update for the most part. I have no clue what my Mac is doing most of the time until that last countdown when I finally see the screen and it boots into the OS.

Although this one didn't almost give me a heart attack like 12.6.1 did, it sure was slow! Almost half a day, maybe more. And I don't notice much improvement in performance yet, for my basic macOS sessions. I may have to switch to Windows at some point if macOS continues to slow down. I can't afford an hour wait time on a fresh session before being able to access the content of time-critical emails, for one thing.
I guess we shall see whether 12.6.2 is more stable than 12.6.1. Apps had been crashing constantly with nothing much running.

Geez... I'm glad it finally came through! That long, though?!! I don't know if that's because you're on an Intel Mac, but that seems crazy slow. Maybe it's a combination of that and the drive? Not sure what sort of boot drive you're running, but I assume it's an SSD. Could be I'm just spoiled because the Mac Studio is not only M1, but the internal drive is ridiculously fast... like over 5,000 MB/s! I know the update is quick disk intensive. I didn't realize you couldn't see the progress bars due to the graphics card. That would be quit unnerving to have no visual feedback for that long!

Fusion drive on 2017 iMac. My intern bought an M1 laptop earlier this year or maybe late last year, and is literally having ALL of the same problems I'm having with increased slowness (even though both of us know how to hack at the Linux OS command line level), and emails taking almost an order to show contents (horribly stressful when time-sensitive messages have come through) after initial startup, until the computer has been running for a while.
