Multiple 828x waveform timing/alignment

Not sure if this should be in optimization/usage or troubleshooting.
When I record a few different mics on a source (kick drum for example) the wave forms are not precisely aligned.
To be clear, if I record all mics through the same interface they ARE aligned. But if I run through 828x #1 and 828x#2 and/or my alesis AI-3 they are NOT aligned. They aren’t off by much but still audible.
I am going to try different clock sources first to see if this solves the problem (internal, 828 etc) but I wondered if there was a setting in the audio driver prefs that would tighten this up.
Logic would dictate that I just run all drums through one interface except each interface is tied to different flavor preamps. 828#1 is the True precision 8, AI-3 is all my tube stuff and 828#2 is direct out from my Dynasonics desk (WAY musical EQs and sweet pres)
I’d like to access each flavor when cutting drums so proper alignment is key.
Maybe a external hardware clock that would whip them into shape?
Thanks in advance
