Getting Audio into DP4 through the "Line In" o

Post by Chris Fitzgerald »

Pretty much what the title says. I've got my 1224 going to a Quicksilver G4 800 in the downstairs music room where most of the serious recording goes on, and all is well there. But I'd like to be able to record audio into DP from my Kurzweil module into the 20" iMac in my 3rd floor office, and if possible do it without an interface. How can I set up the DP4 inputs to accomodate this? I'm a technodummy, so please speak slowly, as if to a small and somewhat dense child.

All help appreciated, thanks!

I've never tried it. But in your hardware configuration does it show Built In Audio as the only driver choice? Then in DP on the tracks input it should show built-in audio as the input choice.

But if DP won't work, you could always try recording the audio with GarageBand and importing the AIFF's into DP too.

At times, I record my synths (and sometimes even my vocals) directly into a PowerBook Titanium 667, its 1/8" input jack, into DP 4.52, and it's easy to do: in AudioMIDI Setup (it's an application, you can command-F to find it): choose the line option for input, set the levels, check Patch Thru and it's ready to go. But if you record with the built in mic, (you have to go to the same AudioMIDI Setup and choose mic input, and reset the level), it sounds great too, but there's TONS of noise. So that's probably an unacceptible factor for you. You can hear something I recorded entirely (except for 1 synth overdub) (even the vocal is done into the TiBook (LAFF EVERYONE! but LISTEN FIRST!) at

Sorry if I sounded like i was talkin down, but you said to keep it simple!

correction: even the hammond organ and all the synths were recorded into the PB's 1/8" input jack.

Thanks, Tommy - that did the trick! And don't worry, there's no "talking down" to me when it comes to computer-related stuff. My problem here was that I had set the input to "line in" but failed to notice that the input level was all the way off. DOH!
