Intermittent digital distortion on playback
Hi all... I Upgraded to DP5.13 recently, and now I seem to be getting intermittent digital distortion on playback... this happens let's say every 8-10 playbacks, and I have to stop the sequence and restart it to get them to go away... it seems to only happen on the kick track (maybe it's the loudest element or shortest soundbite don't know)... but I have made sure that all my levels are low and there is not a single RED meter in sight...
anyone else experienced anything like and can somehow shed some light on this... as a workaround I have been mixing my tracks in two submixes... KICK and EVERYTHING ELSE... so that I can listen in to when the kick distorts and restart the sequence.. This happens in multiple project with different kicks and levels...
thanks in advance!
Rush.

Do you have many different files ?pencilina wrote:Hi,
This was happening to me too recently. I was getting an intermittent crackle. No overloads on audio or processor. I'd be very happy to hear any ideas on this.
Think sample VI's or many fast cuts in the tracks...

Hello,
I had to go back and recheck all my gain stages. Projects that had no overs in 5.12 suddenly did when I upgraded to 5.13. This included plugins.
I sent an email to MOTU hoping to get some kind of last word on metering and gain inside of DP. Have not received a reply.

I just went through this and found out that in my case it was happening where I had an overdub and there were maybe a few soundbites around the edit point. When I cleaned it up I could get rid of the distortion sound. It sounded like a weird word clock issue to me, like a fuzzy sound. Check out your tracks and clean up the punch in points to see if that fixes it.

In my case there were no punches- just several tracks that sometimes were distorted on playback and sometimes not. Luckily this only happened recently in one particular project.

Can you please clarify this Daveyboy... do you mean there are two soundbites on top of each other on the track that is causing the distortion or any track around the measure where the distortion is happening? on the track in question, there are no overdubs...
