Yesterday when I got home, my 828mkii was outputting a fairly loud 600Hzish tone. I have reset it several times and always have the same problem. Further, it never locks onto a sample rate and if I try connecting it to a computer, the computer blue screens. The area around the power supply is also quite hot.
I have already contacted sweetwater and MOTU, but has anybody here heard of this or anything similar? What do y'all know of MOTU's support? According to sweetwater, they'll probably charge me a fee to fix it. (though I wouldn't mind having it replaced with an 828mk3....that thing's beautiful)

Yes, this is exactly what happened to me, within two months of buying it new from Sweetwater. It was indeed fried and Sweetwater will not help you. MOTU replaced it with a REFURBISHED unit for as I recall, $80. Not free.
It's unlikely that they will replace it with a Mk3. That would be cool though.
