Anyone using Soundminer?

Post by stephentayler »

Hi folks,

I was just introduced to Soundminer by a sound designer in Wellington, NZ, and I was blown away with it, especially in the way it integrates with PT. Most impressed that you can preview any sound in your archive, varispeed it in real time, and then spot it right into PT.

Anyone using it with DP, I believe it works with drag and drop??

Any comments gratefully received....

all the best

Stephen ( currently on the road in Sydney.....)

I don't know.... I will get Audiofinder anyway , it looks great.

Any idea if having auditioned audio at a different pitch whether you can import it at the new pitch?

The one powerful thing about Soundminer, apart from the speed, was the powerful search facilities, one can input a lot of metadata, which for the kind of massive sound collections some people have ( this guy had at least half a million sound files ) would seem rather useful.

Thanks

Stephen

I use Soundminer all the time only not with DP if i can find the installer i will do a small test with dp on my PB with dp
I like it way more than the demo from audiofinder I've tried.
something that also should be great is audioeases snapper but i don't know when it is going to come out.

Soundminer doesn't work with drag and drop it works with bins wich is very usefull wen you work on different project at the same time. you can specify if you want the files only to be imported in your project or copied to an folder you choose. very handy is also a feature that warns you when the same soundfile is retagged so you don't copy the same file 2 times to your project, the auditioning works with rewire or coreaudio. and realtime varispeed is very usefull when editing.. if you have the full version you can previeuw your soundfile with plug ins and such.

with audio finder you can vari speed very easily ( fixed rate over the sound bite ) once you find the pitch you need - y6ou press control P and it renders the pitch shift...

It also supports AU's - this is great for sound design

drag and drop directly into DP..

bins smins!!!!

...and a mere 17 years later, Soundminer can now spot audio to DP! As far as I know only Sound Particles' "Explorer" search database has had this capability until now. Soundminer may be the most popular and most sophisticated search database out there, so this is great news. According to today's webinar, composer and DP user, Chris Peck helped make it come together, so a big thanks to him.

The timing of this implementation is ironic for me because I'm transitioning to ProTools for most of my postproduction mixing, which is where I need an app like Soundminer mostly, but it's still great to see its compatibility with DP. Who knows, maybe this is a hint that DP's postproduction tools are finally being updated for DP12.

Not yet, but I’m definitely considering it. I also need to get in touch with spotify canada customer support soon—something strange has been going on with my account lately. Has anyone else experienced issues like that? Would love to hear if others have had similar problems or found a solution.

It's by far the fastest search database I've used (launching, searching, indexing etc.), and I've used quite a few. Unfortunately, the aforementioned spot-to-DP implementation is broken for me right now. Spotting to a track creates weirdness that requires relaunching DP. I haven't had time to troubleshoot, or report the issue. It seems likely that it's something in my system causing the problem. …I'd love to hear from anyone for whom spotting to a track in DP with Soundminer is working.
