Symphonic Instrument error after 2 months of good use :-(

Post by BMWfreak »

Hello Guys,
First time writer, because untill now I had no problems with the MOTU Symphonic Instrument. I will copy/paste the email I sent to MOTU support, maybe somebody knows the answer to my question. Thanks in advance !

Hello,

My product is: MOTU Symphonic Instrument Version 1.1.2

Serial no. MSi ********

My system specification is:
Pentium IV 2.53 gHz on Intel D845EBT motherboard
1 GB 266 mHz memory
100 GB 7200 rpm 100/ATA Caviar HD
160 GB 7200 rpm 100/ATA Seagate HD
ATI Radeon X800XT All-in-Wonder 256MB video card Catalyst 6.7 drivers
LITEON LTD163D DVD drive
NEC NR-9200A CD-RW drive
Tascam US-122 audio interface version 3.3.0 driver
Compaq wireless mouse and keyboard
Standard floppy
AT&T DSL connection

After this lengthy intro I will try to describe the problem to you. I have installed and succesfully ran MSI before. Recently I was not able to start the program in any of the available plug-in or stand alone configurations. The only change that I made between the first install and now is to replace my video card. Previously GeForce FX5600Ultra to ATI Radeon X800XT All-in-Wonder. The program odes not start the GUI and instead gives me an error message:
Unexpected problem detected in the program "MOTU Symphonic Instrument.exe".
See the report file E:\MOTU\MSI\CrashReport.txt for more info
I am attaching the crash report file to this email, hopefully you will be able to figure out the problem.
I have tried reinstalling the program a few times from the 1.1.2 file I downloaded from your web site. I have tried cleaning the registry of the MSI entries and reinstalling and nothing seems to work.

And here is the crash report:

EDIT:
OK, I have pinpointed my problem to the video card. Something causes a memory access violation. I tried running the program in 256 colors and voila it opened, of course I can't see jack, but the program is running ! Is anybody here running the MSI on the Windows XP Pro machine with ATI chipdet vid card ? If so, which version of drivers do you use ??? I think I have to change drivers, but am not sure which ones I should go with.
HEEEELP !!!!

I reinstalled the ATI drivers and still the same problem remains. I did, however, figure out how to go around it. I've disabled the 3D acceleration in Video properties/troubleshooting tab. This way my MSI starts and plays as it should. Nonetheless this is a compatibility issue that MOTU should look into ! They should have at least one set of tested and verified drivers to recommend. I will be on the phone with them tomorrow again.

wellety wellety..... This could very well have helped med for the last six months where I have experienced the excact same problem...
Now 2 years after you experienced the solution, MOTU haven't fixed the problem yet... But it also worked for me by devaluate the hardware acceleration, though I didn't have to completely turn it off.

Just switch to Nvidia and you are good to go.
