Yea, so 12.7.1 is causing the FF800 to lock up. Have to power-cycle the FF800 to get it to work again.

Unfortunately, I don't have an external SSD to do a test install of Ventura. That article says to not even bother trying to install Ventura on an external spinner.

I'm not entirely opposed to just taking the plunge, but as with all OS updates, there is the question of what software will be quietly killed-- and where I only discover the bodies slowly over the coming months.

That blue TextEdit cursor could be enough to give me an aneurism. But maybe that's a Sonoma thing.

You do not need an external drive. Create a bootable Volume (do not partition an APFS drive) — you can delete it when no lonfer needed. Here are a couple of Support docs from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-ut ... %20needed.

Si! I meant volume not partition. I'm still trying to get my head around the difference. If you have the patience for it Its really worth a try. I haven't any issues with my FF800 & MBP M1 on Monterrey or Ventura.

Thanks all. I really want to avoid doing yet another from-the-ground-up fresh install. There are many reasons why this is especially tedious for me.

But if I make a fresh install of Ventura on a volume, and gradually install things (especially Rogue Amoeba stuff) and it still runs without issue, then I may at least try doing an in-place install of Ventura-- (not a clean install).

Thanks again.

I just updated to Sonoma 14.3

TotalMix is still acting up-- becoming unresponsive. However, it looks like there's a complication. If I try to switch to bring TotalMix to the up-front app, it won't respond-- BUT.... if I am willing to wait between 10-30 minutes, it may eventually "recover" and become responsive again.

I need to hang with this more and see if this is always a matter of 20-minutes and some patience. I keep hoping it will "work itself out" but that doesn't seem like a rational expectation.
