Re: DP11 is here!
Still navigating the Apple Silicon thing: Is DP11 Universal, meaning that it will run natively on both M1s and Intel? Or, is there some kind of Rosetta translation making it backwards compatible? MOTU is not very clear about this, and neither am I.

Re: DP11 is here!
"DP11 is fully qualified for macOS Big Sur (11.x) and the latest generation Apple silicon Macs. No Rosetta required. Optimized for native multi-core performance, DP’s audio engine prioritizes audio threads on high-speed cores and reserves CPU bandwidth for critical, time-sensitive processing."
It is a little oddly worded. They don't use the word "universal", but it seems pretty clear. The specs say: "Intel Core i3 or faster (including equivalent AMD or Apple Silicon devices)"...although AMD I don't quite get

Ah, I see that now. Thanks. There was this quote on the downloads page:dix wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 7:01 pm"DP11 is fully qualified for macOS Big Sur (11.x) and the latest generation Apple silicon Macs. No Rosetta required. I assume the AMD is for the Windows version?

D’oh! Yes, Windows. I forgot.
Yes, “fully compatible” makes more sense than “fully qualified” to me.

After having a couple of glasses of update courage, I am pretty pleased overall. I was most interested in the control surface updates, as the Mackie MCU/HUI drivers have been driving me crazy since the last update from v.9???. Just make sure the "Track Filtering" shows all tracks. The "Live Performance Mode" is another enticement, but I don't see how this is any different from leaving the FX plug window open at all times.

Re: DP11 is here!
Is there a DP 11 Feature or Walkthrough video?
So many videos on Presonus Studio One and Cubase but such a dearth of video info on DP. I wonder why?

DP11 is here!
I wondered what that was.... I hadn't tried it yet. It's not different, but it's probably a lot easier... especially if you have a lot of virtual instruments going on. I can see this being helpful if you're trying to quickly and accurately adjust the level of a MIDI track targeting a VI and you don't want to deal with the lag that's going to happen when it's running in PreGen. Workaround before was to record enable the MIDI track which puts the VI in realtime mode, but if you're you're making adjustments to several things, seems nice to be able to just "flip a switch" and turn off PreGen. I seem to recall people asking for that. Although I guess if you're redlining your CPU, it might choke your Mac? However, if the M1 chip is all it's cracked up to be, maybe many users will want to turn off PreGen altogether that way, just for more responsive mixing?
Oh and DP11 has Articulation Mapping. No small thing there.
Seems also the new Playlist function in the Chunks Window might be quite handy.

Re: DP11 is here!
Okay... LIVE PERFORMANCE MODE.
I have a feeling that I may just use this more than I anticipated. I have a 12-core 5,1 MacPro and on several projects I switched over to Live Performance Mode and was surprised that it didn't seem like my Real Time meter in the Audio Performance window jumped up that much higher. It might be a nice trade off when mixing to just click on a MIDI track that's targeting a VI and hear it respond instantly. Seems like it might make for a better mixing experience, especially if you're still tweaking and experimenting with several tracks.
Again, maybe it's because I'm only generally doing 4-5 minute rock songs and not huge orchestral mockups, but switching to Live Performance Mode (essentially globally turning off PreGen) doesn't seem to be stressing my CPU all that much. YMMV, but I'd suggest trying it.

YAY!!!!
!
I'm so happy that MOTU has come through!
There are so many naysayers predicting the demise of DP.
The constant drumbeat has been depressing.
So cool that we have a version that we can turn up to eleven!
Thanks and Congratulations to MOTU!

Re: DP11 is here!
So far, so good! DP 11 is working fine for my modest needs. I have a few larger orchestral templets that are "housed" using VSL's VEPro 7. DP 11 interfaces with these templets using VEPro 7 without issue. A nice and welcomed surprise is that DP 10 remains in my application folder unaffected by the upgrade to DP 11.

Re: DP11 is here!
This seems like a solid release. Lots of requested features and some nice surprises (like nanosampler’s upgrade). Nothing new or groundbreaking IMO, but a solid updating of features to bring DP to parity in needed areas.
(I’m not “damning with faint praise” btw! It’s a no brainer purchase.)

Running beautifully on my 2009 MacPro 5.1 with High Sierra 10.13.6
Fast, responsive, all plugins fine (extra plugs by Waves, iZotope, Soundtoys, Nomad), VEP7 is quick on the same computer and the CPU breathes easily.
Could be the best DP yet!
