Yeah. If my system is solid, I would simply clone it elsewhere and update with that clone fot testing.
It takes around an hour to do so.
Didn't like the new system? Just nuke the disk and nothing ever happened.

You don't need to do that, but it's still a labourious process. You have to install all your plugins and applications and authorize it all. But at least you can do that on the side without disturbing your working setup.

Yeah, I guess you're right about that. You just need to install the interface, do the authorization, and then point it toward the installed library. I've even done that. I think what I was mainly talking about is the installation of those things that reside with the OS and have to be authenticated for its library.

I finally fixed my Adobe Elements problems in El Cap.

I disabled SIP, uninstalled both 6 and 10, trashed Library/Preferences and User/Library/Preferences then reinstalled both plus the Raw 6.6 Update and authorized again. Elements now 6 works perfectly which was what I needed.

Elements 10 shows a missing plugin and crashes on exit—as it has since Mavericks. All the rest of the errors are finally gone. There are thousands of complaints online about both issues but crashing on exit doesn't affect the functionality and the missing plugin only affects those who use the Wacom tablet.

Re-enabling SIP doesn't affect either version but certainly affected the installers.

At some point, a paste bug affected both. When copying a selection of anything, paste gives you the whole page instead of the selection. The easiest workaround is to crop save as instead of copy a selection. A few extra key strokes but it works and does what I need.

I still prefer Elements 6. It gives me an amount of manual control that later versions do not when I edit certain documents. In addition, it allows me precise control over print settings and allows me to save them. Adobe apparently decided in later versions that users weren't supposed to have this functionality.

Someday, I suppose that Apple will do away with 32bit support entirely. I hope that day is a long way off.

Ooooh... that burns me up. Apple is terrible about that, too. I rue the day they take away Spaces/Mission Control, and if history is any indicator, that will happen some day. Apple gives; Apple takes away.

Adobe is the same way. Up to CS6, it's been tolerable, but I'm always looking for menus, buttons, and panels in Illustrator. Slows me down something terrible, especially since everyone decided that manuals are passé. (I still read Illustrator 3's manual for some things.)
