I'm going to try using the Band Delay unit to splay the frequencies out into the stereo field of a reverb plugin to try to accomplish an asymmetrical reverberation space, with hard spaces on one side and open spaces on the other, for instance, and simulate varying absorption characteristics in the stereo field of the reverb, and thus produce more interesting direction-based late and early reflections, perhaps. It always bothered me how reverbs seem to all sound like the absorptive and reflective elements were evenly spaced around the reverb environment like the uniform plush seats and symmetrical walls in a concert hall.

Well, we'll see what comes of that!

I saw that video and, frankly, it made little impression. I could hear the subtle changes but nothing that warranted dropping $80, let alone $199. It reminds me of the chrome tailpipe finish Honda offered me on my car. Sure, it’ll look shiny but I won’t see it and most people won’t notice it. Essentially, gilding the lily.

I stand corrected. That’s not the same video I saw earlier. The linked video convinced me that the extra band plugin is definitely not for me. I don’t need that kind of effect often (maybe not ever). If I do, I can accomplish it with existing plugs. In fact, I preferred the dry sound to the active plug in sound in every example. I’ll keep my $80. Thanks for the link. It really helped me decide. As far as the H3000... I effin love it.

Good darn thing I got both of them, then!

Playing with them both later tonight. For me, the Band Delay might come in handy for some synth effects and perhaps for the reverb tricks.

I totally see how it can be useful, just not for me - at least not in my usual work. I tend to be something of a purist in terms of design and EQ, reverb use, etc. when it comes to basic products. It should sound real.

When I do sound design work I also apply that but if the project calls for something more 'extreme' I feel that I have enough tools, as is, and this wouldn't really help that work. OTOH, if I were doing restoration kind of work, this could be extremely useful if used precisely and judiciously. At least, that's how it seems to me. So $199 isn't too much for that kind of control, but if you don't need it, then $79 is waaaay too much.

Restoration work? Interesting! I'll have to think on that!

Sweetwater convinced me it was only $2 a month for each (48-month financing on my Sweetwater card), so they got me to go for it.

What I'm thinking is having control over very specific frequencies, especially across specified time, has the potential to hone in on unwanted artifacts as well as heightening desirable frequencies. I might be incorrect in that assumption, but isn't that basically what noise reduction does, only more 'wholesale?"

OK, NOW I'm thinking i should buy the bandy stuff... grrrrrr!

BTW - I really enjoyed this demo - using only a Juno 2 with a HW H3000.
