Big Problem running in MMe mode

Post by Mike Rock »

Well here's the deal. I'm running a motu 828mkII firewire with a 2.66G pentium 4, WinXP, with 512 ram. My software of choice is Adobe Audition(used to be cool edit 2.0) wich is a legacy software. The problem is i get this strange kind of digital crackling and noise in MME mode. I've checked all my wiring and connections several timesand determined that there seems to be a conflict somewhere between the motu and my computer. I'll even have this problem when playing an mp3 in winamp. When I switch out out of MMe mode the problem seems to stop, and when I switch back the noise isnt there for a while but then will return eventually. I've disabled the onboard soundcard in bios. This is a practically new motu that I've used only on one other project using another computer (which i no longer have access to). If anyone has any suggestions or has encountered this problem before please reply, its very urgent!

I don't think I know enough to help. However, you may want to move this post over to the Hardware Forum. You're more likely to get someone who's able to help there.

I hope you can get this solved!

While not a MOTU interface, I had a client buy an M-Audio product that had a similar problem. For him, however, it was the headphone output on the the CD drive itself. He also bought one of our Creation Stations so of course, we thought it was something in the computer. We changed the motherboard, same issue. Come to find out, it was a bad interface EVEN though everything else was working just fine. We replaced the audio interface, it worked. I'm not saying this is the issue, but something to consider.

With MME, you're downgrading your drivers and it could be an incompatibility somewhere with the motherboard or another driver in your computer that you're not aware of. What motherboard do you have?
Thank you,

Thanks for the info Brad. I`ll have to check into what mother board I have, I am certain its a driver issue somewhere. I`ve re enabled the onboard sound card and I`m using its output, this seems to be a temporary fix as I`m not getting that noise I was getting when monitoring through the motu main outs.
