iZotope RX 11 is out

Post by mhschmieder »

I'll let others start the conversation, as I barely had time to read their hype today, and ran out of time to log in to see my upgrade price for Advanced or to figure out what is actually new, thanks to how the "new features" talk morphs seamlessly into what appears to be a list of existing features undifferentiated by any specifics about what is new in any of them.

It does appear that some features are new and a few are improved, but it might take some time to figure out exactly what, kind of like how it's always hard to tell whether one is throwing away money by buying one of their suites or upgrading an existing suite.

Based on the extremely short description of what is apparently new, it appears that stem separation (Audio Rebalance) is greatly enhanced in this edition, so that race is obviously far from over. I think the feature to hear how awful our music will actually sound once posted to SoundCloud and other platforms, is also new, and could be a huge time-saver.

I quickly checked GS and their product announcement there is far more detailed than their website, at least when I checked the latter earlier tonight (the web is an evolving creature; vendors often put up placeholders while fine-tuning final copy).

I can't remember if it's OK (not due to "they're bad guys so don't mention them") to post the link here, but it's easy to find in the new product area over there. I know there can be potential legal issues or privacy policies regarding cross-linking forums.

Quoting or re-posting someone else’s IP without permission does have its issues and the “everybody does it” excuse doesn’t hold up even if true.

Linking to that IP is not the same thing. Think of it like a book. You are not allowed to copy it but you are allowed to read a copy that you do not own (else libraries could not exist).

Trust me on this one. Being in the IP protection and licensing business, we had a strict company policy at ASCAP about quoting (No!) vs linking (ok). This applied to letters, internal memos and press releases.

Back OT, I’ve downloaded RX 11 Advanced but have not yet checked it out. Apparently, my upgrade to RX Post Production Suite 7.5 was done after whatever date allowed me to get this upgrade at no charge. According to my iLok account, I now have RX PPS 8.

That iZotope has no way of checking upgrade eligibility when bought through a 3rd party is no longer a secret and is openly discussed on NI user boards. NI will fix this someday but haven’t yet.

Sweetwater has their list of paths https://www.sweetwater.com/izotope-rx/series

Guitar Center and Musicians Friend still have RX PPS 7.5 upgrade listed at $150. Which is where I bought it when upgrading from 7.2. https://www.guitarcenter.com/iZotope/R ... 0412016.gc
Redeeming/registering licenses purchased from GC/MF is a convoluted PIA but you do get them after jumping through all the hoops.

Yep. I heard back from NI support. Apparently you needed to purchase 7.5 in April or later. I got it before that so I’d have to fork over $299 I think.

I only updated to RX10 recently and I'm very happy with it. RX11 is going to have to offer something pretty spectacular for $299 to entice me to upgrade 3 months after I bought to the RX10 upgrade. There's a public demo later today that I'm going to try to check out https://lappg.com/2024/05/02/may-16-2024/

Also, Sonic State has an ongoing promo code deal with NI/iZotope that offers 10% off most NI and iZotope products. Is it okay to post that code here, James?

Voucher: "sonic10" earns 10% off most NI and iZotope products and upgrades, even on top of whatever promo price they have, including the upgrade to RX11

And check out Sonic States SonicTalk Live every Wednesday. I haven't missed one since 2017: https://www.youtube.com/@sonicstate/streams

Yeah. Not all that compelling to me, either. Maybe if I did a lot of that sort of thing. I could see $149 or maybe even $199— but beyond that I’ll wait till there’s a sale or it goes on special through a reseller eventually.

That GC/MF purchase link is still up there.

Anyway, here is the Mix blurb:

https://www.mixonline.com/technology/iz ... nces-rx-11

One thing stood out:
Spectral Editor ARA [Standard, Advanced]: Use the spectrogram to find and fix issues without ever leaving your DAW. Spectral Editor now includes Gain, De-click, and De-hum processing, along with Spectral Repair. Currently available for Apple Logic Pro (in Rosetta mode) with additional host support coming in a free update this summer.
Really—over Rosetta?!?!?

What it doesn't state is that the Spectral tools are part of the stand-alone app and Sectral De-noise still works as a plug-in in DP. Spectral Editor in 10 was Logic only.

Yeah... that's to buy 7.5, right? I already have 7.5. I guess what you mean is I can buy it all over again and perhaps qualify for a free 8?

I'm pretty sure that currently you have to enable the VST3 version of a plugin to use ARA? That's how DP works with Melodyne. Pretty sure it must be the VST3 version enabled.

Rx11 upgrade is $100. If you bought 3 months ago they might give it to you if you ask. I’ve found every upgrade shows noticeable improvements.

Did you pay $100? I bought RX10 3 months ago and my price to upgrade to 11 seems to be the same as everyone else at $299 :(
