Pianoteq 8.0 does NOT work in DP 11.2

Post by David Polich »

Weird one - just updated to the latest version of Pianoteq, version 8. Major update. However, when I load an instance of it in DP, I get this error message -

Mas, 1 error reported by Mas Audio Unit Support
Failure: render Slice 1151- 50 [-50]

Pianoteq 8 works in standalone on my Mac, and also works fine in Logic Pro. Just doesn't work in DP.

Anyone have any ideas? And yes, I've sent a tech support request to Modarrt via their website.

That Render Slice error is something I frequently get when I try to run an Intel plug in DP without Rosetta 2. What mode is DP in? Is Pianoteq Apple Silicon ready yet? I don't see any processor specific info on the Modart site.

I'm running it on my 2019 Intel 8-core Mac Pro. I don't use Rosetta on my Mac Pro. DP is 11.2 on my Mac Pro, running Monterey 12.6.

I shouldn't be getting this error message. It has something to do with rendering and cores, I guess. Pianoteq 8.0 runs fine in Logic Pro, and as standalone, like I said.

Hope I don't get the "contact MOTU, this isn't our problem" reply from Modarrt.

Hmmm. Not sure since you’re on an Intel Mac. Was this with the AU? Have you tried using the VST3 version as a possible workaround?

Thanks, James. Ok, I tried disabling the AU version of Pianoteq 8 and enabling the VST3 version. I get a message "Warning, Fatal Error". Then DP tries to validate the VST3 version of Pianoteq 8 and DP reports it failed and will not be loaded.

Seems Pianoteq 8 and DP are not the best of friends..

UPDATE: Just tried the mono version of Pianoteq 8 and it does work. Weird.

Wow. Very strange. Is there a VST2? Maybe since you’re on Intel you could try that. You could also, if you have it, try to load it inside of Komplete Kontrol using that as a shell.

Keep us posted. I haven't updated Pianoteq to 8 yet. I had a brief exchange with Moddart support when we were trying to troubleshoot DP's messed up note release bug. They were pretty helpful giving very specific data about the issue.

Just received an email from Modarrt tech support. They can reproduce the issue with DP there, and are working on a fix.
Which is great news, because version 8 definitely sounds better.

I will post here when the update is available.

Good news. Glad you reported it. I have often felt a good number of issues aren’t fixed because people assume someone else will report it. Thanks!

Pianoteq 8.01 just released today. I am happy to report the issue with DP has been resolved, it now loads and plays without any problems.

If you are updating, run the Pianoteq 8 uninstaller first, then install 8.01 (which is available from Modarrt's website).

I just updated today, but the update dropped after my purchase & install. I'll uninstall as you suggest and update before trying with DP.

BTW, the classical guitar is nice. It's definitely the classical, well-manicured nails on strings attack. I hope they eventually allow for a fingertip (skin) option. I suppose we'll see a steel string guitar at some point.
